My buddy in Ashville called me today to tell me about his big score. He went to Goodwill and bought a comic book collection that included a complete run of Eclipse's Miracleman as well as complete set of Scout, Jon Sable, Dark Knight, and Gaiman's Sandman and others. A total over 300 comics, all bagged and boarded in near mint/mint condition...

for $40.

And he's not even a comic fan. He finds quality merchandise at Goodwill, yard sales, etc. to resell on eBay.

Holy crap! Goodwill usually weeds out anything of value for their own auction site. That complete Miracleman run alone is worth several hundred.

He's riding high.

I've got to start checking out the local Goodwill. I've donated, but I've never gone inside.

I have found a few good scores at Goodwill, nothing remotely close to that though. Good find.

I did well on eBay with Dark Knight and Miracleman.

He asked me if he should sell them in complete sets or individually. I didn't know the answer to that.

Tell him Christmas is a wonderful season and that it would bring him unbridled joy if he gives them to you.

If ebay, complete sets. The ability to save on shipping makes people bid more freely on complete sets.

Those might be desirable enough to check around with some comic shops, though. Miracleman is something very collectable.

I have never found a single comic book at any of our local Goodwill stores, or any other thrift stores. Not even an old, worthless copy of Lab Rats.

Sell in sets. It's just easier all around. You can maximize your dollars selling individually, but the time, effort, and so on makes it a wash. A set will sell all at once, BOOM. Individually, you could take weeks to months to unload all those books.

What we're saying is, sell them in sets here at IMWAN, for a generous markup of 10% for yourself.
