In the 90s - I hate to admit it, but Rob Liefeld was my favorite of the original Image artists. The only explanation for it was that he was flashy and drew sort of like Art Adams (my favorite artist at the time).
Now - I think Jim Lee is miles above any of the Image founders now (and probably was then, too).

Toddler, back in the day. Now? Not even aware of what any of them are working on.

I loved Marc Silvestri. Big fan of his X-Men stuff. Now, Jim Lee by a wide margin.

Liefeld's drawing Hawk and Dove and a book with Robert Kirkman (and, amazingly, both are shipping monthly). Silvestri just started a relaunched Hulk book. Larsen's still doing Savage Dragon.

I've met Liefeld and Valentino... I have a good Liefeld story and a great Valentino story, so I'm going with Valentino.

Huh, I do know those things, other than Silvestri, who isn't someone I've ever followed. OK, then it's Erik Larsen, because he's doing his own thing, and not giving a fuck.

I just based mine on thier artwork and had to go Silvestri, though even his work couldn't get me buying that Godawful Hulk book they just launched. I feel like Marvel has been actively trying to keep from taking my money for a hulk book off and on since they hired Bruce Jones to write the book as an X-files rip-off.
Marvel doesn't want me to read the Hulk.

Jim Lee. I really liked his X-Men work. The only other Image artists I really liked were Silvrestri, The Toddler and Erik Larsen. Liefelds' work got old real fast to me, and Valentino wasn't as bad as him but he wasn't as good as the ones I liked.

Then: Jim Lee
Now: Probably Erik Larson. He does what he wants to do and I respect that.
