FRANK ZAPPA and the Mothers Of Invention Carnegie Hall - warts & all!!! 2 Full Shows, 4 CDs 40 Years Ago Today Pre-order now!!! If you are not on the Barfies' List, here's your chance with the Persuains
full blown versions of King Kong and Billy the Mountain!
Neither show was ever taped (should say taped and traded) by anyone - so this is ALL new for our ears. Within a couple of weeks of the 71 New Haven show - I hope it has much of the same material I remember.
Cheap too for 4 CDs!
Promises another release announcement around 10/31/11 (this might be the Roxy Soundtrack??? if so the end of daze must be cuming soon)

Just ordered!
And the Roxy soundtrack is not a sign of the end times - the Roxy DVD is!

Some folks are NEVER happy(not here) - over at ZAPPA.com they are bitching that it is in mono - they are bitching because they assume it is more of the same tunes...folks - FZ died nearly 20 years ago...he hasn't recorded much lately...4 cd's - a monster version of King Kong - another Billy the Mountain - my guess would be another Pound for a brown - all 3 songs...all 3 epics contain solo's unique to the performance. the promise of another announcement by 10/31/11 and Gail already said Ruth Underwood wrote the liner notes for the Roxy Soundtrack...the dvd will be nice but I will listen to the cd many many more times...
Best news since Petite Wazoo's Imaginary Dieseases.
Same week as Smile release - looking forward to this...

The Roxy DVD was such a long-running joke at alt.fan.frank-zappa that it actually died out.
To be honest, I had no idea this was mono - I didn't dig that deeply into it. I saw that it was two shows, the Flo & Eddie band, never bootlegged, reasonably priced. So I bought it. End of story. Would it have been the absolute top of my list? Probably not. But it's not up to me. And I'm going to like it.
Not sure exactly how it's a surprise that it's more of the same songs - aside from the whole being dead thing, there's been a list available for years that shows what the bands played at various shows. No one should be surprised at what's available from certain eras. Geez, it's not like a Kiss show where you can make a set list and be fairly certain that it covers 85% of the songs played at 85% of the shows over the last 10 years.

No one loved the original MOI more but things change
I also loved the Flo & Eddie band
the Petite Wazoo
73/74 Band
75 Beefheart band 76 in New York Band
early 80's Steve Vai band
and the 88 band
all had their strengths and maybe a weakness or two...
I can't wait to hear this one!

still can't find a set list but I found this review of the concert - sounds very interesting!
At the 1971 Carnegie Hall show that I attended, Frank walked onstage and said, "Boys and girls, welcome to the desecration of Carnegie Hall". The Persuasion's were the warm-up band, and we DID NOT boo them off the stage. We brought them back for encores. I have more fond memories of this and many other Mother's concerts during this time frame. This was the best show I ever saw. As for The Persuasions, the Zappa New York City audience of that time frame was fairly intolerant of less than type flight entertainment. The "Bob Seger System", was booed off the stage at the first Felt Forum Grand Wazoo show before they finished their FIRST SONG!! The result of this was a less than stellar reputation as an audience. I remember the look of ABSOLUTE ASTONISHMENT on the faces of the Persuasions when we gave them a standing ovation and brought them back for encores at the end of their set! These crazy-ass, high as a kite white kids actually like us!! You could see it on their faces, believe me. Another interesting tidbit regarding the Carnegie is: At the end of The Mother's set, naturally the place went wild. This was EASILY the best show I had ever seen him perform, and the acoustics in the old hall were magnificent. He was clearly pleased to be playing there. After the band left the stage, the standing ovation began, and after awhile, Frank re-appeared on stage alone. He quickly informed us that, "The management says if I want to use this stage after midnight, I've got to pay them $600". Well, basically with that statement and Frank's general demeanor, people started putting jackets on and getting up to leave. He then adds from the stage, "Well I'll tell you people something, I'd be HAPPY to pay $600 to play for you people!" With that, the crowd went completely bonkers, and the rest of the band came out and they played again. There may have been more than one song during the encore, I really can't recall. The last song of the night however, was definitely "The Mudshark". When the band had come out and reformed onstage for the encore, Frank stepped up to the mike and announced, "This next song is dedicated to the PRICK in the back counting the overtime money!" -George Grand, Eastampton, New Jersey

this just in -
Dear People of Earth,
We thank you for your kind indulgence and excellent taste in music and ask for your patience. The Plan A from our production plant has now moved to Plan B. What this means is that Carnegie Hall will be shipping the week of the 14th of November and that you will have to indulge in "other" tricks and treats for Halloween.
Thank you, again.
xxx,
the barfies

Hmm...still haven't gotten the notification of shipment. And I ordered another disc, too.
Then again, I still haven't gotten the signed Tony Iommi book I ordered, either...
