I've known about this for some time as have some others on here, but it's on the way. This will be VERY expensive and probably in the US $130-140 range or so.
So, Santa is going to have be very nice to me with this one!

A little info (this sounds pretty amazing, but we'll see)...


This release is collated from all of the BBC owned Lizzy recordings that still exist in the archive and charts the inexorable rise of the band: from the first steps as a three piece on the Decca label, to the glory days as one of the greatest live acts of all time. The BBC gave the band a platform and support at crucial stages in their career and thus “Thin Lizzy Live At The BBC” could be seen essentially as an alternate Greatest Hits, a musical growing up in public.

This incredible archive represents a great set of previously unreleased recordings in the Lizzy catalogue. The collection has been brought together by trawling the BBC archives, but also by inviting contributions from fans. The BBC had a habit of wiping tapes after they were broadcast which has meant that some of the Corporation’s output has been lost for ever. However thanks to fans recording broadcasts at home a couple of gems have been reclaimed here for this set.

This collection brings together a raft of sessions and live recordings form through out the band’s career.
Included also is a DVD of the bands sought after appearances on Top of the Pops and the Old Grey Whistle Test a well as concerts from throughout the band’s career. This is a first for the band as these recordings have never been available in one place before. With comprehensive notes by Classic Rock’s Malcolm Dome who tells the story of the bands history at the BBC

I'd be interested to see the track listing. I'm a Brit who listened to John Peel playing Live And Dangerous on his BBC show when it came out, so I'd have heard most of the stuff after that, I would have thought. But the only thing that sticks in my mind that's not already out in some fashion is the Renegade tour live broadcast (Hammersmith Odeon show, I think) and that's readily available on bootlegs in good quality.

What they've got that fills 6 cd's, I've no idea.

This quote makes me think that there may not be much (anything?) on here I don't already have:

Still hoping to pick it up anyway if the price allows.

Thanks for that. I forget if I've seen that before. My brain has turned to mush trying to keep up with all the new immersion/directors cut/boxsets-that-are-so-expensive-you-will-have-to-sell-both-your-kidneys-to-be-able-to-afford type things.

I don't know what is in that book for this thing but it sure looks massive. Damn, I gotta get this just for that.

I've never really been a fan of radio sessions. How often are they better than the album versions? Completists only, and I'm not one.

CD4 looks interesting. CD5 is the Renegade show that's widely bootlegged from the FM radio broadcast. CD6 is the Thunder & Lightning show that I thought had been officially released somewhere anyway.

On the dvd - The Live At The Rainbow (and it was 1977 not 1979) and Live At The Regal Theatre broadcasts are already on the Live And Dangerous dvd, and acts usually mimed on Top Of The Pops, so those clips are gonna be one-watch only.

Not saying it doesn't look very nice, and there won't be some great stuff on there I haven't heard before. But I'm not paying that price.

I'm still debating on this. i want the big box, but can't afford it, especially with the Mosaic Coleman Hawkins box also coming out.

Are these the same "BBC Sessions" songs that were on Disc 2 of the recent Johnny the Fox Deluxe Edition, where it was revealed that they were actually not live performances, but rather simply the regular album-version being played on the air?

Heads up to anyone interested, this box can be had on Amazon.de for about $83 including shipping to USA.

It shows the price as 53 euros but it gets knocked down to about 44 after you go through the checkout, takes out some kind of German VAT charges. Standard shipping is 14 euros, making the total about 58 euros or $83.

That's a lot better than Amazon's current $140. The UK site is just a few bucks more than the German one (when UK VAT gets taken out) but I hate the UK shipping envelopes, am hoping the German site uses better packaging.

Supposedly EMI has already sold out/filled their orders on this. Hard to predict these things for sure but I think this one will disappear over the holidays and get harder & harder to find.

hmmmm... a tough call. Lizzy are my favorite band but so much of the box is rehash. Your price is much more reasonable, but still too high when I have so much already.
I may just go with the 2CD version but that leaves out much of what I don't have.
And I'm not sure Santa has enough $ to get me the box (i.e. wife, parents, sister-whoever-that's a lot to ask on one gift I think, so it's up to me!).

That's a surprise! Normally Amazon.de is way more expensive than Amazon.UK. Last (& only) purchase i made from them was a 2 dvd set that came to $50 USD with postage.

I don't think I've ever ordered from them b4, but I can't remember for sure.

It comes out about $5-10 cheaper than the UK Amazon. The Quadrophenia box is cheaper too. Maybe the $ is stronger against the Euro than the Pound right now, I dunno what the reason behind this is.

Well, I think I lucked out here. Just popped on Amazon last night and there was a new box on there for $80 which is way cheaper than anything I've seen (the lowest is generally $120-$125 before S&H).
So, that's definitely a steal. Now, I just need to receive it and it has to be the real thing. No need to worry as the seller had good feedback and it was listed as new-but you never know until you get the product.
Luckily, I don't have to worry about overseas shipping or taxes and it's coming from Florida so that's a huge bonus besides the price.
After I get it, I'm turning it over to my wife, mother or sister who will confiscate the box until the holidays and Jingles The Elf will pay for it!

I picked up a copy today[it cost me about what Barnes and Noble charges in store[and about $8 more than they do online] but without the 10% discount but at least I wasn't charged tax]........when you consider the store's list price was $189 and I paid $26 less it is a bargain.[the owner of the store paid $143]
