Having previously paid homage to George and Ira Gershwin, legendary singer-songwriter and Beach Boy Brian Wilson announced plans earlier this year for another reimagining album, this time comprised of Disney tunes. In October, the world will bear witness to that magical musical marriage when In the Key of Disney hits stores.

According to Pitchfork, the 11-track effort sees Wilson tackling a number of classics from the Disney catalog, ranging from Pinocchio‘s “When You Wish Upon a Star” to Elton John’s Lion King classic “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” Right now, you can head here to listen to Wilson’s take on “Heigh-Ho” and “Whistle While You Work” from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Of the decision to tackle Disney songs, Wilson told USA Today, “The Beach Boys sound and the Disney people make a fantastic collaboration. I tried to do justice to all their songs.” We’re sure Jiminy Cricket won’t be dissapointed.

Hmmm...I don't know. I was very underwhelmed by the Gershwin set. I might have to pass on this one.

Bummer. Looked short enough that I was hoping that some retailer might have some bonus tracks.

While fans wait to see if Brian Wilson will rejoin original Beach Boys Mike Love and Al Jardine for a 50th anniversary reunion, the pop music legend has been working on a new album of Disney favorites. Rolling Stone reports that when the folks at Disney approached Wilson, he responded enthusiastically. “I said I’d love to do it,” he said. “I flipped.”

Wilson will release In the Key of Disney on October 25. The album features the former Beach Boy taking on tunes made famous in films such as The Little Mermaid, Toy Story, Dumbo, The Lion King and Wilson’s favorite Disney movie, Pinocchio. “I tried to put the Beach Boys style to it – a combination of Beach Boys and Disney,” he said. Wilson said it wasn’t easy putting his spin on some classic songs. “When I listen to it I think to myself, ‘How in the heck did we pull that off?’”

Got mine today. Pleasantly surprised to find it in a jewel case. Less pleasant surprise courtesy of a poster at sh.tv -- Amazon also has another exclusive track on their MP3 version of the album, "Peace On Earth".

I really would like a collection of Brian Wilson songs.... another Imagination would be great. The last one was an interesting experiment, but overall, I listened a few times and unlikely to listen to again.

I have no desire to buy the Disney disc.

The mp3 version of this is on sale today at Amazon for $3.99, and it includes both the exclusive bonus tracks.
