Backing Johnny Kidd in the early '60s, the Pirates – the great Mick Green (guitar), Johnny Spence (bass, lead vocals) and Frank Farley (drums) – were rock's first bona fide power trio, a major influence on the likes of The Who. Reconvening in the latter half of the '70s, their uncompromising approach and awesome chops won them a whole new generation of fans. With Mick (1944-2010) no longer with us and Frank retired, only Johnny Spence is still out there performing. Meanwhile, this chronicle of both live and studio performances affirms beyond any doubt that The Pirates now reside in the pantheon of Britain's finest rockers. Buckle up for 52 of their best (and rarest) recordings from 1977 to 1979. Features the Pirates albums Out of Their Skulls (1977), Skull Wars (1978) and Happy Birthday Rock 'n' Roll (1979) in their entirety plus rare Pirates single A/B sides and seven previously unreleased tracks. Remastered from original session tapes for fantastic sound quality and presented in a sumptuous digipak with 32-page booklet packed with wonderful photos and Pirates ephemera. Also includes authoritative sleeve notes by veteran rock scribe and band confidant Roy Carr (who even wrote a couple of the songs with Mick Green).
