Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell recently spoke about how tough it has been to record and release his band’s forthcoming album. Farrell talked to RollingStone.com about the Jane’s struggles amid the departure of two bassists – first Eric Avery and then Duff McKagan.
“It's definitely like, as Brian Wilson puts it: The dry hump,” he said. “We’re waiting and waiting and waiting to release this record. It’s like watching something that you really want. You become an animal. Your desire grows and grows.”
The group, who also include Dave Navarro and Stephen Perkins, will release their first album since 2003 in the summer. It’s titled The Great Escape Artist and features work from TV on the Radio member and Yeah Yeah Yeahs producer Dave Sitek.
“He’s like a scientist, and he’s not afraid of making a monster,” Farrell said. “It just keeps getting gnarlier and gnarlier.”
The album is being produced by Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol), who will help the band condense a wealth of tracks into 45 minutes. Farrell said potential songs include the “twisted” ballad “Splash a Little Water on It” and the rocker “The Irresistible Force Met the Immovable Object,” which reconsiders the Big Bang Theory as a “cosmic sexual exploit.”

From Antimusic.com:
Jane’s Addiction are finally poised to release new album The Great Escape Artist in the summer. They’ve put bass player issues behind them after Eric Avery left, Duff McKagan joined then quit, and TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek joined as studio collaborator, although he won’t be touring with the band. Singer Perry Farrell says: “Dave’s like a scientist and he’s not afraid of making a monster. It keeps getting gnarlier and gnarlier. We’re getting back into using a lot of space and having a lot of air.”

Jane's Addiction Giving Away New Song
04/11/2011
Jane's Addiction are giving away a free download of the final mix of "End To The Lies" exclusively at their website: http://www.janesaddiction.com. The track comes from their new album, The Great Escape Artist, which will be released this August on Capitol Records (exact date TBA).
An early, unfinished version of "End To The Lies" leaked last Wednesday (March 30) in Chile when Farrell made an appearance on the "La Ley D Rock" program on the Chilean radio station Radio Futuro, after which the song became an instant viral sensation.
Jane's Addiction were in Chile as one of the headliners of the inaugural Lollapalooza Chile, which took place last weekend (April 2-3) in Santiago's O'Higgins Park

Jane’s Addiction have revealed that their new album, The Great Escape Artist, will be released on September 27 in the U.S. and September 26 internationally. The album features long-running members Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar) and Stephen Perkins (drums) as well as TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek on bass and programming. It was produced by Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand).
The Great Escape Artist, the band’s fourth album, got its name from frontman Farrell, who said, “I love being able to escape my past, even though my past was great. I just love the future even more,” according to Blabbermouth.
Regarding the album’s sound, Farrell said, “It’s a strange mixture of that post-punk goth darkness that Jane’s had, with what's going on today with groups like Muse and Radiohead. As much as I want to appease fans and make old Jane’s fans love me, I just can’t help myself from moving forward.”

Jane's Addiction delay the release of new album 'The Great Escape Artist'
Jane's Addiction have pushed back the release date of their forthcoming album 'The Great Escape Artist'.
The band had initially scheduled their fourth studio effort to come out on September 26, but have now confirmed that their LP will be released on October 17. The album is the follow-up to 'Strays', which was released in 2003.
Songs set to appear on the record include 'Twisted Tales', 'I'll Hit You Back', 'Broken People', 'Splash A Little Water On' as well as singles 'End To The Lies' and 'Irresistible Force'.
'The Great Escape Artist' features TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek on bass duties, after the producer replaced former Guns N' Roses man Duff McKagan in the band's studio line-up.
The band have also unveiled the album's artwork which shows a semi-naked cartoon figure. You can see it by scrolling up to the top of the page.
Jane's Addiction recently pulled out of the Reading And Leeds Festivals after singer Perry Farrell suffered severe swelling on his vocal chords.
You can watch an interview with guitarist Dave Navarro which was filmed before the shows were called off by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

wow-this song is frickin' amazing!
Thanks for posting this IP. The full video is also on their web site.
This song kicks ass. By far may favorite tune of theirs since Shocking. I'm don't care for irresistable Force (which is also on their site) nearly as much, but at least it's another rocker. I'm really, really looking forward to this one!

Yeah-funny thing is, it's "Irresistable Force" which is getting all the radio (currently Top 20 at Album Rock) and video play and not the above song. I like both, and I am really looking forward to the album. I'm hoping to see them in Atlantic City next month but $$$ will dictate whether that happens or not.

Fans waiting patiently for the Oct. 18 release of Jane’s Addiction‘s fourth studio album, ‘The Great Escape Artist,’ have a little something to help bide their time: the disc’s front cover artwork to stare at.
The cover art, which features what looks to be a lone male figure stripped down to nothing more than his skivvies and hanging out in a bedroom full of fun items like a computer, a diary, Christmas lights and an electric guitar, shares striking stylistic similarities with the original cover of the band’s multi-platinum 1990 album, ‘Ritual de lo Habitual.’
That cover, which included papier mache figures of a naked man with two (two!) nude women, was replaced by a second cover featuring only black text (featuring the so-called “freedom of speech” text of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution) on a white background. Farrell created the papier mache version, which was used by braver stores.
It’s not immediately clear who created the ‘Escape Artist’ cover artwork, although it’s probably safe to assume that JA singer Perry Farrell, who designed the ‘Ritual de lo Habitual’ piece, is likely responsible. “We wanted to cast a spell,” he has said of the band’s intentions with the new album, and the striking cover art certainly could be considered a key ingredient in the spell-casting process.
The big release day for ‘The Great Escape Artist,’ which follows on the heels of 2003′s ‘Strays,’ has been pushed back several times, and now stands Oct. 18. You can however, check out two very enjoyable tracks from the new album, ‘End to the Lies‘ and ‘Irresistible Force‘ right here on our site by clicking on each song title.

Amazing album. Sequencing sucks.
At $11.99, the 2-disc set at Best Buy might be the best bargain in a while.
I agree-amazing album. Having listened to it several times not I gotta say-this is great. Moody, but heavy and kinda dark. Love the songs and things get off to a great start with "Underground". The live CD made this one of my best purchases this year.
