You all know how much I hate MP3's, but I am a huge fan of Patti's music, so am posting a head's up. I emailed her asking if she would be willing to personally sell me a flac version (I have corresponded with her in the past). I am hoping she'll write back.

I do not know when this was released, other than this year.

You can buy here for $11.99 (bit rate not specified):
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/pattirothberg1

or at I-tunes for $9.99 (again bit rate not specified)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/overni ... d420695041

Amazon doesn't appear to be offering it at this time.

& stream the 1st song here:
http://www.pattirothberg.com/live/

From the 30 second streams on CD baby, about half of this this doesn't sound anything like her previous work; on about half of the songs she seems to be going for a "modern" sound. Unless you're a techno fan I'd suggest starting with any of the other 3 before buying this. From the 30 second segments, it isn't bad, but it's pretty foreign sounding to this 53 year old. Her other albums were kind of heavy 90's style alt singer song writer & are all superb.

Just noticed CD Baby is now offering a cd edition. So I ordered. There shipping is a bit high ($3.50), but I'm a huge fan & Amazon is not carrying this.

Not always. It's the artist's choice. In fact the ONLY cdr I've gotten from Cd Baby was a Wendy Waldman. I was quite angry that wasn't disclosed, I certainly agree if an item is cdr it should be disclosed. Everything else I've purchased from them have been real cd's.

Keep in mind CD Baby is consignment only; small indie artists use them.

At least it's lossless if it's a cdr. Prior it was mp3 only.

Be interesting to see what you get, Geff. I see 3 Patti Rothberg cd's listed on CD Baby. They need to tell you beforehand if it's a cd-r, even amazon does that. I understand that CD Baby is artist-friendly, but it's unforgivable to me for a cd-r to arrive unannounced. I ordered a Young & Company cd from them, was over $30, and a cd-r shows up. I promptly returned it, gave them a piece of my mind and have never ordered from them again and I see that they STILL aren't disclosing if it's a cd-r, from what I can glean.

I agree, my mention of the Waldman cdr is still up years later:

:sigh: scratched cdr in flimsy (printed) cardboard packaging with no tray, no inner sleeve, no gatefold. Will rip to a higher quality brand of cdr (it ships on mediocre Moser Bear media). Hopefully it will rip ok as there are some scratches. :sigh:

For those into this sort of thing, the 44 minutes cdr scanned with 2620 C1 errors & a nero score of 95. That indicates either a poor burn &/or the scratches. It should rip ok.

Since I had to run it through EAC, in case anyone cares all tracks showed a peak if 100% (which means loud, compressed, & possibly brickwalled). 1 track ripped at less than 100% quality on 1st play.

I have attempted to post an edited version of the above on CD Baby. It will be interesting to see if they post it.

This is my last comment:

Musically this is like 2 albums in 1. The first 5 songs are produced as combination of Techno & Hip-hop (with a touch of late period Roxy Music thrown in) & 2-4 are really horribly BAD.

Tracks 6-13 are the softest rock she has ever recorded (almost folk), & while not her best work are quite good.

Don't know if I've heard heard an album this schizophrenic.

I'm tempted to burn a play copy with tracks 1 & 6-13, but don't think i can fit 3 cdr's in the packaging!
