Amazon UK is now listing this Pop Market "exclusive" for what would equate to about $44 at the current price and exchange rate. Less than $4 a disc. Sure beats the current PM price of $79.99 and is well below PM's previous sale price of (I think it was) $64. Glad now that PM botched my earlier attempt to order it.

Linda adds: David was referring specifically to the Byrds box, but a whole bunch more are being released in the UK during November ...

David had made this thread for the UK pressing of the Byrds box set, and another thread for the Earth, Wind & Fire box, but let's keep all of these Sony Complete Album Collection boxes together in one thread for easy reference. As you can from the prices of what's been announced so far, these general release editions are better deals than what PopMarket has been charging to get the "exclusive" boxes from them directly -- judging from the product images posted by Amazon, these appear to be identical to the sets that PopMarket has been offering. So hopefully everything in the series will eventually be released by Sony UK.

Nothing in this particular batch for me, but this is great news as I despise Pop Mart.

The John Denver collection is still showing as an import pre-order at Amazon USA:

But its listing page has vanished from Amazon UK. I wonder if his box is going to be cancelled?

Seeing all these boxes gives me hope of a similar set someday for the Lovin' Spoonful.

I actually bought this box set from Pop Market about a month ago. Maybe someone is just re-thinking the low price tag (?).

Does anyone know if these sets will include any expanded versions of CDs that have been previously released, or will these just be original album remasters in replica LP sleeves? Either way the prices look really good, but I'd prefer to get the most complete versions of everything if possible. That Earth Wind & Fire set is on my radar.

The John Denver set is original album remasters in replica sleeves and a skimpy booklet. But that's also 24 cds in one box set. Considering most of that material is otherwise out of print, not a bad deal at all.

Were any of those Denver CDs previously released in expanded editions that are not included in the box? I'm hoping Sony is at least including the most complete version of each CD in these boxes. Didn't realize the Denver set was so many discs. I'm not a big enough fan, but if I was that box would be hard to pass up.

David,

Are they all remastered? If so, by Vic Anesini?

Thanks,

For Richman and Jay,

Definitely not Vic Anesini remasters. There are one or two albums that have one or two bonus tracks so I believe they are the latest catalog versions of the albums. BMG did a very small, short lived John Denver re-issue campaign a few years back but I believe only one or two CDs every came out of that (seems like Aeirie and maybe Back Home Again). The album jacket replicas are straight copies -- most are extremely hard to read. No effort went into enahncing the artwork. The booklet is essential because it has the track listings (and a very minor appreciation) but really offers no more than that essential info. Still, it's the entire RCA catalog and a special "vanity" recording before John had a contract.

One more question: does the Denver box have the 2-CD expanded version of An Evening With John Denver, or the abridged single-disc version?

Hey Jimbo,

It's the 2 disc version which features tracks from a Red Rocks Show (the date for the show is not specified -- that's how lame the info is) as bonus cuts -- 6 in all.

I was wrong. The end notes in the John Denver booklet do specify mastered by Vic Anesini. Cheryl Pawelski was also involved. My apologies for the misleading info earlier on. The data in the booklet is not easy to get through. There are bonus tracks on:

rhymes and reasons
back home again
an evening with ...
rocky mountain christmas
autograph

and of course, the John Denver Sings "vanity" project is included. All covers of songs from the Beatles, Phil Ochs, Django Reinhardt (!), Leadbelly, Phil Everly, Bob Gibson.

I just ordered the Kansas collection from Amazon UK and while I was at it, picked up 4 of the DSD mastered Rolling Stones Lps. It was a deal!

I just received an email from Amazon U.K. telling me that my Kansas box shipped + the price went down. Including shipping, it cost me $40.67 Not too shabby for 10 discs.

I've added ELO to the selection in the first post. These are great, great deals. (But it's strange how they're all ostensibly imports, but a couple are only available through Amazon USA or Amazon UK, not both.)

I'm a bit frustrated by the universal lack of track listings. I'd like to know what's on some of these "new discs" (the one in the EWF box, for example... I hope it at least has the studio version of "Sun Goddess") and which versions of the CDs are used (such as in the Leonard Cohen box).

It is also unfortunate that the Leonard Cohen boxes in the US and Europe are not the same.

Has anyone heard any updates on the Earth, Wind & Fire "Complete Albums Collection"? It's no longer available for pre-order on Amazon (US or UK).

Yeah...I got excited when the price dropped to like $35 before it got cancelled. Hope it re-appears.
