Amy Winehouse's Tony Bennett duet to help raise funds for her family's drug treatment foundation
Amy Winehouse's duet with Tony Bennett is set to raise funds for the late singer's self-titled drug treatment foundation proposed by her family.
The track 'Body And Soul' which is set to feature on Bennett's 'Duets II' album, out on September 19, was recorded with Winehouse at EMI's London Abbey Road studios.
Speaking about the recording sessions he told Billboard:
Quote:
She was a little apprehensive about how to go about it, and I said to her, 'I may be wrong, but it sounds like you're influenced by Dinah Washington' and that just blew her mind. She just said, 'Oh my God, you mean you can actually hear that? She's my idol' And that relaxed her, and that's the record we ended up making.
He also said he tried to help her during her troubles leading up to her death. Bennett added:
Quote:
I was convinced I would be able to help her and talk her out of... taking drugs. The foundation is a great way to turn something positive out of this.
The song will be the first recorded output to feature Winehouse's voice since she provided vocals for Mark Ronson's cover of The Zutons' 'Valerie' in 2007.
Other artists on the album include Lady Gaga, Sheryl Crow and Mariah Carey.

I like Tony a lot, but beyond the Winehouse and Gaga numbers I don't have much interest in this. For my money, the Gaga track is better. She demonstrates that she really can sing, and I know at least a few people who are suprised at that. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it. I don't at all like what Winehouse did with her voice on her track. It sounds like she was forced to sing lyrics at gunpoint. Tony compared her to Dinah Washington, but I'm not a big fan of hers either.Bennett sounds great, as usual.

Tony Bennett becomes the oldest living person to top US album chart
Tony Bennett's 'Duets II' album has shot straight to the top of the US album chart.
The success of the record, which features collaborations with Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga, means that Bennett has become the oldest living performer to top the Billboard 200. The record is also his first US Number One in his 60-year career.
The album sold 179,000 copies in its first week, taking it to the top spot, reports Billboard.com.
The 14-time Grammy Award winner's previous highest position on the chart came in 2006, when his first 'Duets' album debuted and peaked at Number Three with sales of 202,000. The previous oldest performer to top the chart was Bob Dylan in 2009 with 'Together Through Life'. At the time he was 67 years old.

Tony Bennett: ‘Amy Winehouse knew that she wasn’t going to live’
Tony Bennett revealed that Amy Winehouse knew that she was in trouble and was not going to live.
Bennett stopped by The Daily Show on Thursday to discuss his new record ’Duets II’, where he also shared stories about recording the duet ’Body And Soul’ with Winehouse. The song was released on September 14, which would have been her 28th birthday.
Just as the late singer’s father has attributed her death to alcohol, Bennett claimed that she knew she could not overcome her addiction.
Speaking to The Daily Show, Bennett said that she “knew that she was in a lot of trouble, that she wasn't gonna live. It wasn't drugs, it was alcohol till the end.
He continued:
Quote:
She was in trouble at that time. What people didn't realize at that time, she really knew, and in fact I didn't really know it when we were making the record. She knew she was in a lot of trouble, that she wasn't gonna' live. And it wasn't drugs. It was alcohol.
Proceeds from the duet have gone to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, but many of the donations made to the foundation had to be returned, due to a third party had registered the same name.
