i had the grear pleasure to see jackson browne do a solo show last evening in akron. the venue was the e.j.thomas performing arts center, and it is a beautiful place. i can't believe i was never there before.
the show itself was unbelievably great. browne had 16 acoustic guitars, 1 electric guitar, and a piano on stage with him. he would play a song, the crowd would call out song tiles and browne would pick a different guitar or sit at the piano, and play a tune that he heard. he made sure to tell us that there was no setlist.
one call was "play us your favorite song", to which jackson immediately sat down and played leonard cohen's "a thousand kisses deep', and it was excellent.
the show lasted a little under 3 hours, with a 15 minute intermission.
one very noticeable omission was him not playing "doctor my eyes", but it wasn't missed at all.
an interesting choice was a cover of warren zevon's "don't let us get sick".
i wish i could remember the set list, but i'm old. so i'll try going through the albums and tell what he played:
rock me on the water a child in these hills i thought i was a child ready or not for everyman fountain of sorrow farther on for a dancer before the deluge your bright baby blues the pretender running on empty in the shape of a heart i am a patriot i'm alive sky blue and black alive in the world sergio leone off of wonderland the arms of night just say yeah
and
a thousand kisses deep here (from a yet to be released movie) a new tune about woody (or by) woody guthrie.
i highly recommend this show to any jackson browne fans. it definitely ranks in my top concerts of all time.

I'm glad you had a great time Renny. Right or wrong, Jackson Browne is one of those people whose personal failings have soured me on his music a bit over time. I might have to pull a few titles out and give it all another chance. It does sound like he put on a good show and since he's a singer/songwriter, this kind of performance sounds well suited to him.

I'm seeing this show Friday night. Can't wait!
I also saw him do a solo show several years ago. Same "format"-- many acoustic guitars lined up, no set list, people calling out song title requests after every song, Jackson picking out a song title from the cacophony of crowd noise and playing the next song.
As I recall, he also made a comment from the stage that night about the alleged Daryll Hannah incident being untrue, or total crap, or words to that effect.

Has Hannah ever commented? All I've ever heard were allegations from Joni Mitchell.

Here's what I remember: a few years back in an interview she criticized JB for alleged physical abuse of one of his wives (I'm pretty sure it was Hannah). All I can find today is, "Never one to hide her complex feelings, Joni even criticized onetime friend Jackson Browne for alleged physical abuse of actress girlfriend Daryl Hannah on “Not to Blame,” a song from Turbulent Indigo." http://chapters.rowmanlittlefield.com/1 ... 347ch1.pdf
