Grace For Drowning is Steven Wilson's second album and develops further the uncompromising creativity evident on his highly regarded debut, Insurgentes.

A double album ("Two 40-45 minute albums in the same package."), Wilson describes the release as, "My biggest project to date."

Wilson adds, “Insurgentes was an important step for me into something new. This record takes that as a starting point, but it’s more experimental and more eclectic. For me, the golden period for music was the late sixties and early seventies, when the album became the primary means of artistic expression, when musicians liberated themselves from the 3 minute pop song format, and started to draw on jazz and classical music especially, combining it with the spirit of psychedelia to create “journeys in sound” I guess you could call them. So, without being retro, my album is a kind of homage to that spirit. There’s everything from [Ennio] Morricone-esque film themes to choral music to piano ballads to a 23 minute progressive jazz–inspired piece. I’ve actually used a few jazz musicians this time, which is something I picked up from my work remixing the King Crimson records.”

The deluxe edition features 3 CDs, a Blu-Ray version of the album and a 120-page book. In addition to the album on 2CDs, a third CD features out-takes and demo material.

The blu-ray disc contains the album in 5.1 surround sound with accompanying video content. The video content, created by long-term collaborator Lasse Hoile, includes music videos featuring Wilson, photo galleries, hand written notes and lyrics.

All 4 discs will be packaged in a hard back book which features 120 pages of artwork and notes.

The Deluxe version features 3 CDs (including a bonus CD of out-takes and demos) and a Blu-Ray disc, and is packaged in a hard back book, which features 120 pages of artwork and notes.

The Blu-Ray disc features 5.1 surround sound and high resolution stereo mixes of the album, additional demos, films for 5 tracks (directed by Lasse Hoile), photo galleries, hand written notes and lyrics.

We have managed to secure some more of the European allocation...limited number available

(Shipping cost includes insurance - UK orders will be sent by Recorded Delivery, all other orders will be sent by Airmail International "Sign For" service. You will need to sign for the package)

Due to the size and nature of the deluxe edition we are aware that shipping costs may be high to some parts of the world. For this reason, a limited number of the deluxe edition of Grace For Drowning will also be available from three stores in Western Europe (one each in Germany, Holland and Belgium) and one in North America. Please check the Grace For Drowning mini-site for more information.

I thought there's only CD and CD/Blu-Ray options. Is there a DVD-Audio version that I missed?

Nope your right its a Blu-ray, Amazon had it listed as a DVDA. Just got it in today along with the CD.
Can't wait to find time to immerse myself in this music. Steve Wilson will appear in NYC on Nov 11th.

I knew I forgot one of the discs to look for at BB (that will explain all the middle aged guys going to the W's and walking away face down - I thought it was for Wilco, but they were a little off the mark there)!

I don't have Blue Ray (yet) - I wish these where bundled with the CD like earlier releases but oh well).

I haven't upgraded to Blu-Ray yet, and I have no plans to do that anytime soon, so I ordered the standard 2-CD version. It's a shame, because his surround mixes are always stunning, but I guess I'll have to miss this one unless he releases a standalone DVD version at some point. JohnG, do you have a Blu-Ray player? If so, let me know how good the surround sound mix is.

I've been enjoying Steve's latest opus especially Side 2 of the album. What great night music. I highly recommend listening to this album late at night on headphones. Allison Steele (aka The Night Bird) would have loved this album.

Side 2 starts with an awesome instrumental called "Belle De Jour" and then goes through many moods till the album's big piece "Raider II" which sounds like King Crimson meets Miles Davis. Try Side 2 with headphones with the lights out and be prepared to be blown away. :)

I really love this album. And I love how JohnG is referring to "Side One" and "Side Two." I got the Blu-Ray but still don't have a Blu-Ray player. One day I will get to enjoy it in all its surround sound splendor.

After listening to the CD version for about 2 weeks now, today I finally threw on the Blu-ray DTS-HD 5.1 version on the big rig and wow! this thing sounds solid. Fantastic fidelity compared to your usual compressed rock release these days.

Just a wonderful album.

btw.....Steve Hackett (Genesis) does play guitar on the track "Remainder The Black Dog".

Problem with Blu-Rays is this stupid region thing that companies have brought in, I have a few Blu-Rays that have become beer mats as they are not playable in my player, this S.W is one of those.
I will now try to order the CD version, I was hoping it would be on DVD but did not happen.

That did it! JohnG's consistent excellent reviews has me sold on the Blu-Ray. Of course, when you had mentioned by mentor (and secret girlfriend) Allison Steele (aka The Night Bird) that sealed it.

yep, I would bet Allison Steele would have loved Porcupine Tree and Steve Wilson in her heyday. Perfect night music that plays better the later it is. :D

Great news for NY Steve Wilson fans, Steve will appear at J&R Music on Friday at 12:30PM doing an acoustic show for the crowd! :)

He will talk and sign items for fans.

Then later that night, Steve will appear at the BestBuy Theater (Nokia) in Times Square preforming Grace For Drowning.

My old office used to be a very quick train ride to J&R, but now I'm working in Westchester and won't be able to make it there. JohnG, are you going to J&R and/or the show that night? I've seen a few shows at the Nokia Theater, and although it's a nice place, I've never loved the sound there. If anyone can get good sound there, though, it's Mr. Wilson. That night I'll be seeing Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience (or whatever it's actually called) in Poughkeepsie.

Enjoy both shows. Let us know how good they are. I haven't seen SW solo, and it's been several years since I saw Porcupine Tree, but they were always amazing. Probably the best shows was at The Bottom Line, either on the Stupid Dream or Lightbulb Sun tour.

We probably sat right next to each other, considering how small that place was. It fit 400 people in a space designed for about 200. Still, I miss that place more than any other venue.
