http://www.monkees.net/david-jones-albu ... day-music/ It is with great honor to announce here on monkees.net that Friday Music will be releasing Davy Jones first album for the first time ever officially on compact disc as DAVID JONES/ The Deluxe Edition on September 27, 2011. With the help of our good friends at Rhino Entertainment, we have also been able to include his two super rare singles Take Me To Paradise (b-side of Dream Girl) and The Girl From Chelsea (A side of Theme For A New Love) Just listening to these original COLPIX RECORDS recordings, one can foresee a unique window into an amazing career that would soon develop into Monkeemania a short year later.
I had the good fortune of seeing The Monkees in Atlantic City last month, and I was talking with Davy about the c.d. after the gig. As we were discussing various aspects of the release, he reminded me “ DREAM GIRL WAS #1 IN AUSTRALIA!” And I noted to him that this particular song, and its wonderful b-side were really “early northern soul” kind of tunes, and he smiled. Along the lines of American soul groups like The Shirelles, Little Anthony & The Imperials, The Drifters, etc, Davy obviously dug soul music early, and as seen in later Monkees releases, this r&b vibe shows itself on tunes like A Man Without A Dream, She Hangs Out, etc.
As with The Monkees cds we just released, we have included the original artwork and some other fun surprises to make this a nice experience for the fans.
I cannot wait to get this music out there, its been a blast working in the studio with it, and I am amazed with the story that surrounds this early career in music…..One day Oliver, next Ed Sullivan with the Beatles, next THE MONKEES……..truly a Hollywood story…unlike any other.
The songwriters on this album are A++++ Bob Dylan, Carole King/Gerry Goffin…..etc .etc.. If you listen to The Girl From Chelsea….you just know good things were on the horizon for Davy. It sounded like a rock star in the making and it surely became reality a year later. Produced by David Gates of Bread by the way………another Monkees hired hand for Saturday’s Child as well as landing a tune on Davy’s second LP on BELL RECORDS.
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday!
God Bless You All!
