Ive been watching old episodes of BUCK ROGERS in the 25th Century on youtube..man I LOVED that show as a kid..but watching it now..its pure cheese!!

Poor Erin Grey was constantly paraded around in demeaning outfits, the acting all around is horrible, bad costumes, bad makeup, the cuts between the stunt guys and the actors is so obvious, etc etc..(but still fun to watch and it had heart).

Same feeling i had when i saw the 80s FLASH GORDON movie..another childhood favorite that watching now makes the Adam West Batman show look like The Dark Knight Returns:)

Anyone else have similar experiences? ANy shows/films that are better left in the recesses of our memories?

When I was a kid, I never missed The Herculoids on Saturday mornings. Then, a few years ago, I saw some reruns on Cartoon Network. Let's just say I must have been very easy to please back then.

Max Headroom. You know, the above two shows I kinda expected to suck upon later viewing. Max Headroom though...I was really surprised at how bad that was! And I freaking loved that show in high school!

Good to know that I'd be better off not revisiting this childhood memory then. I loved that show. One show that I lived and breathed as a kid that doesn't hold up well at all is Land of the Lost...but not for the reasons you might expect. The effects actually aren't that bad for the time and budget, nor is it the writing. It's the horrifyingly bad acting. Oh dear...

Moonlighting, surprisingly, is no longer as good as I remember it being.

Thundarr the Barbarian wasn't as good as I remembered, though still decent. I agree on Herculoids. I thought that show was awesome, but now on Boomerang I see it's the same story and same animation stills every show.

Land of the Lost -- still got much love for it, but it's not as good as I remembered for this reason: I tended to compress the good, continuity-laden episodes in my mind. I loved the connected stories: that Enok turns out to be a Sleestak precursor, the ones that reveal how the time river might have worked, etc. But I had forgotten how many little unconnected episodes there were -- "Hey, a multicolored pig!"

One movie ive been trying hard to find clips off..and I get nothing on youtube..nor can i find it on video or DVD is the early 80s LONE RANGER movie..why has that dissapeared from everywhere? Was it a legal thing?

I remember loving it as a kid (remember the toy ads in the back of the comics for the movie tie in toys?)...but from what I read online it was universally reviled..! Was it really that bad? Anyone remember? anyone have any links or videos of it?

(I clearly remember a scene where he saves Tonto from being hagned and then Tonto saves him..and the scene where he puts the mask on for the first time with the theme music playing).

Here's a slightly different phenomenon. When I was in college, a gang of us used to love to watch Cheers on late night reruns (say, 11:00 syndication).

But we got to where we didn't like the Coach ones. I liked Coach at the time, but when we got used to Woody, the Coach ones seemed dated. "The ones with Woody are the best!"

THEN, the same thing happened with Rebbecca Howe (Kirstie Alley). It got to the point where we didn't like the Dianne ones (Shelley Long) anymore. If a Shelly Long one came on, it didn't seem funny. Only Rebecca Howe ones seemed good after that.

But we could have sworn it seemed good before each of those changes.

Now I wouldn't watch a Cheers rerun if you paid me. Go figure.

Wow, I haven't thought about that movie in years. I only saw it once, on cable, and don't have many strong memories of it.

It doesn't seem to be available on DVD. Hmmm...

I don't know if it's "universally reviled," but it's pretty clear that the owners of the film ain't proud of it. There was bad PR for the film due to their lawyers forcing Clayton Moore to stop wearing the mask for public appearances. (He switched to large dark sunglasses.) Plus, Klinton Spilsbury's acting was so bad that they had James Keach re-dub his voice for the whole film.

However, there are some used VHS copies at Amazon for about $35. Also, Amazon UK has the DVD available, but it's region 2.

I still love Land of the Lost.

Musically speaking, I remember loving the tune "Whirly Girl" by Oxo when it came out. Then I watched the video on Youtube, and it was just plain awful.

The original (full length) pilot for Max Headroom was brilliant - I hate to say it transatlantic cousins but the ensuing series was made with an American audience in mind and it was papped into unrecognisability. I think I watched about one - sooooo disappointing!

Wow . . so it sucked and it's our fault it sucked. Double stinger.

I'm not pointing the finger but it seems every time a successful UK series gets adapted for the USA market , it just seems to get all the originality and edge sucked out of it - in the pilot of Max Headroom the young nerdy boy character is a really arrogant unpleasant pain in the ass, in league with the bad guys - in the US version he was an all american brainbox in league with the good guys - and what happened to the ageing punk who ate tinned sphagetti straight from the can and his ageing rock chick girlfriend? Not to mentioned the homicidal glaswegian gay bondage leather trouser hitmen!

I see what you mean. For the indictment to hit home, however, the examples chosen should not be flaming failures here. Max Headroom was bad no matter how you slice it, and a bad adaptation can just mean the people they put in charge of it for the new project were not talented.

Thanks for the info on the LONE RANGER flic guys...im still curious as to why it hasent popped up on video or DVD in ages..im still thinking there are some legal problems attached..either way its probably for the best..redubbed dialogue!?!..sounds awful.

I've never seen the UK version of THE OFFICE, but I find the American one to be pretty damned funny.

As I think of other examples, though (MEN BEHAVING BADLY, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, COUPLING), THE OFFICE might be the exception to the rule.
