Have you ever read a comic book series that you initially disliked, but ended up loving?

The second Swamp Thing series--thanks to the arrival of Alan Moore. Does that count?

I was trying to think of a series and couldn't but Steve jogged my memory. It took me a while to start to really enjoy Tom Strong.

Tough to think of an example that didn't include a creative team change. Usually if a series really turned me off, I didn't stick around long enough to see if it got better.

Sandman Mystery Theater maybe - at first I couldn't get past the Guy Davis artwork that I found crude and ugly... but soon I really started to get into his style and couldn't imagine another artist handling it.

I wasn't super impressed with Unwritten until I got to the last issue in the first trade.
And then I was like "OMG I NEED MOAR"

Yeah, that's a good call. A lot of the ABC books took a while to grow on me.

I'll agree with this one. I didn't care for it during its initial run and dropped it pretty quick. In the last month I read the whole thing and really got into it. Now I am debating on giving the Pulse a shot.

I wouldn't bother with the Pulse. It's such a radical new direction in both story and art style for the characters that it doesn't feel at all essential, or as if you're continuing to read about the same protagonist.

Good to know. I feel like Jessica Jones character is largely wasted in the Avengers after reading Alias. She was such a mix of strength and vulnerability there. In Avengers she is played as no more than Luke Cage's old lady and baby mama.

i didn't like the advertised concept for Kamandi.

Another post-apocalyptic series, the cover stealing imagery from Planet of the Apes... looked like a real loser.

After the first issue, I was hooked.

Invincible. I thought it was a boring Nova wannabe type book and dropped it after 4 issues. Picked it back up via trade and it looks like I quit too early.

Y the Last Man. Didn't connect with me at first, but by the end it was on the top of my list.

I feel that way about the art in Y the Last Man, not so much the writing though.
I liked the writing the whole way through, but always thought the art was a little boring and very straight-forward. Towards the end of the series I started to see more and more just how effective the artwork was, although stylistically it seems rather simple.

Y had the opposite effect on me. I absolutely loathed the way he ended it up and it ruined the whole series for me. I sold all my issues to the LCS, having no desire to revisit it after the ending.

Who is correct re: Y the Last Man???

Someone spoiler every issue of the series, in detail, so we can get to the bottom of this.

Jeff is incorrect. About Y the Last Man, too.
