Product Description
Written by The Kooks, produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, Belle & Sebastian), and recorded in The Sound Factory (Los Angeles) and Sarm Studios (London), the band's third album sees them consolidating their position as a bona fide album band with trademark breeziness and catchy hooks. Kicking off with a dramatic breakbeat, the opening track builds across acoustic guitar and warm washes of synth before collapsing into a chorus you'll be singing for days. It shows, that despite the change in their influences, the band still have a firm grasp on how to write killer hooks and pop songs without compare. "It's upbeat; an album to play in the sun" explains frontman Luke Pritchard of the forthcoming 12 song collection, "What we really wanted to do was build a proper, full album. Something you can listen to from front to back. We're an album band and this is a journey you come on with us."

1. Junk Of The Heart (Happy)
2. How'd You Like That
3. Rosie
4. Taking Pictures Of You
5. Killing Me
6. Fuck The World Off
7. Time Above The Earth
8. Runaway
9. Is It Me
10. Petulia
11. Eskimo Kiss
12. Mr. Nice Guy

The Kooks to release Jim Abbiss-produced album in early 2011 – video

The Kooks have been working with producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Editors) on their third album and plan to release it in early 2011.

Frontman Luke Pritchard, speaking in an NME video interview you can watch above, said songs set for inclusion include 'Weight Of The World', 'Window To The Soul', 'Rosie', 'Saboteur' and 'Strange One'.

"We did a bit in New York and we did a bit in London," he said of the album recording process. He also made reference to the band's new set-up – playing with new drummer Chris Prendergast and bassist Pete Denton.

"Musically it's quite different," he said. "It's a new band, two new guys. The sound of the band has changed quite drastically. Still with the same roots we've always had, melody being really important in our band. It's soul music, the lyrics are quite a lot influenced by what's gone on… you get to a third album and [have] six or seven years on the road."

Pritchard was speaking to NME at the V Festival in Stafford on Saturday (August 21).

The Kooks have unveiled their comeback single 'Is It Me' - scroll down and click below to hear it.

The track is due to be released on September 4, just over a week before the Brighton band's third album 'Junk Of The Heart' hits the shelves (12).

The album, the follow-up to 2008's 'Konk', has been overseen by Beck/Air producer Tony Hoffer and was recorded in New York and London.

The LP is the band's first with new bassist Pete Denton, who has replaced founding member Max Rafferty in the group's line-up. The band have previously admitted that Rafferty left the group after struggling with drug addiction.

The Kooks admit their new album is part inspired by cocaine

The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard has admitted that new track 'Mr Nice Guy' is inspired by cocaine use.

The band's third album 'Junk Of The Heart' is set to be released on September 12 and Pritchard has also revealed that the album only came together after he put his partying lifestyle on hold.

According to the Daily Star, Pritchard penned 'Mr Nice Guy' about the self-obession that comes with cocaine use. He said of it:

Quote:
I could have been included in that way of life myself at one point – guys who just want to talk about themselves and don't listen to anyone else.

Pritchard also said he reined in his partying life to work seriously on 'Junk Of The Heart', adding:

Quote:
I got a bit lost and not just with women and relationships. I was getting a bit rampant generally. I slowly realised I was going to the same bars every night, getting in the same messed-up state, and I thought 'What is this bringing me, really?

The Kooks confirmed last week that their only UK festival show will be at Blur bassist Alex James' new Harvest Festival in September. They tour the UK in October.

The Kooks admit they'd become 'stale' before they recorded their third LP

The Kooks have admitted that they'd "become stale" in the past, but that they believe "nothing can touch them" on their new album 'Junk Of The Heart'.

The band release their third album on September 12, with a single 'Is It Me?' preceding it by just over a week on September 4.

Speaking in The Independent, the band's singer Luke Pritchard spoke of how he believes he is misunderstood, but that The Kooks fear nothing now they have recorded 'Junk Of The Heart'.

He said:

Quote:
Everyone thinks they're misunderstood, don't they? I do. People perceive you to be a certain way and I don't feel like that person. Because people think that what you're doing is a sell-out, you're trying to be too commercial. Whatever, I don't know how people see me. Yes I'm paranoid sometimes. I think people think I'm shit, yes of course I do. But now I have this album and I feel like nothing can touch me, I think it's great.

Pritchard also admitted that The Kooks have taken time to be vital again and that the band had "felt a bit stale."

He said:

Quote:
We've taken time to sort of readjust and try and find the band again. For a long time we had felt a bit stale; it felt like it needed a bit of revival. We wanted to make a really modern-sounding album and to try and fuse our more traditional influences with modern ones.

The Kooks tour the UK in October. They also headline Blur bassist Alex James's Harvest Festival in September.

The Kooks' Luke Pritchard admits he wrote new track in airplane toilet

The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard has revealed that he wrote new track 'Time Above The Earth' in an airplane toilet.

Speaking about the creation of the band's new album 'Junk Of The Heart', which is released on Monday (September 12), Pritchard admitted he had spent a full two hours in a toilet onboard a plane while traveling to New York in order to finish the track.

He told The Sun:

Quote:
I always take my guitar on flights and I wrote this when I was on a plane to New York. I sneaked in to the toilet for a quite a while to write it ['Time Above The Earth'] and when I came out I thought the air hostesses were going to give me grief, but they were cool, even though I'd be in there for two hours.

Pritchard also spoke about the new influences that the band had taken in on their new album, talking up LCD Soundsystem and Beck. He said:

Quote:
LCD Soundsystem are one of my favourite bands. We were also influenced by Beck and the way he takes electronics and mixes it with folk and soul.

The Kooks tour the UK next month.
