I don't necessarily believe that these types of comps have to be in chronological order, but "Don't Know Much" seems like a really jarring transition in that slot. There are some great tracks here that aren't on any of the LR CDs I have, so this might be worth a look.

odd order of songs for sure.

none of the nelson riddle material, and only one spanish song. (6 albums)

how about those eyes? she was a very pretty young woman.

Linda Ronstadt has had so many distinct periods in her career that I think that anything that attempts to represent her full career is going to be awkward. I would much rather see multiple collections that focus on those individual periods than something like this.

While the first two "Greatest Hits" titles were a little skimpy, they were both decent representations. Still, I'd love to see someone go back and do a really thorough collection of her rock years. To my knowledge, this has never really been done. Maybe after that, they can do another collection that encompasses the soft rock years, the spanish stuff and the Nelson Riddle material.

I thought that her box set from the late-90's got some things right, like the CD of performances with others, but I would have preferred to see the first two CDs focus on the rock stuff, 1969 to 1980 or 1982 and then another CD or two for everything else.

I was just thinking the opposite, that it would be kind of cool for Ronstand to release a one or two-disc collection that really emphasizes how many types of music she's done. It might not be the most cohesive listening experience of all time, but it would be interesting to spend an hour or so hearing examples of the varied styles she has worked in. This collection makes a bit of a stab at that, but ultimately it's just a glorified greatest hits.

I never understood why Linda chose to walk away from her very successful pop career for the Spanish song routine? talk about shooting yourself unnecessarily in the foot financially speaking. And what did come from her foray into Spanish music to the tune of 6 albums worth. a whole lot of nothing that's what. As a result of her aforementioned music shift you can now find Rhonda Linstadt in the "where is she now file"!

I don't know - it seems that she had enough money and decided to do what she wanted to. She's been doing her thing with the music she loves most and spending a lot of time on charities that are dear to her heart. I'm no expert, but I have a feeling that she wouldn't do too poorly on the tour front if she decided to take that path again.

I was fortunate enough to get to see her play twice in concert in Houston. One of those concerts film footage was incorporated into the movie "FM" if you remember that one. All I'm trying to say is she had hit record after hit record. Yes you could make the argument that most of her songs were done by someone else but she had a very unique way of making them her own. I could maybe understand a record or two of Spanish love songs just to brake up the monotony but taking the exit off the freeway into a whole new music career change, even I couldn't see that coming. I don't think she could produce & sing a pop-country album now if her life depended on it. Oh well thanks for the memories Linda, we'll always have Houston!

I've loved every avenue Linda has taken in her career, and it was always thrilling trying to figure what she would do next! I've seen her numerous times in concert (including two of her Spanish programs), and I was never disappointed. My favorite tour was probably for "Hasten Down The Wind", where she looked and sounded stunning and I was in the first row at the now defunct Syria Mosque here in Pittsburgh...

I keep awaiting the long-promised Jimmy Webb songbook that Linda was supposedly recording, which I think would be a terrific project from Linda.

It is frustrating that Linda is never given enough respect, and I think she is long overdue to be recognized by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, not only for her string of incredible country/rock albums, but for discovering, nurturing and providing exposure for many incredible musicians and songwriters.

Did Ronstadt really do six Spanish language albums? I only know of three but maybe someone here with a more complete collection can clear this up. I do know the Spanish albums were not the first time Ronstadt had changed musical direction. They came after those Nelson Riddle albums that did the whole "American Songbook" thing years before Rod Stewart and others. I'm sure some fans even considered the mildly punky Mad Love album to be a bold departure from what she had done previously.

And don't forget that she even did light opera in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance (in the early '80s, I think) and, more recently, an album with some Cajun French folk songs.

Actually she recorded three: "Canciones De Mi Padre" (1987); "Mas Canciones" (1991); and "Frenesi" (1992).

Has "Different Drum" with the extended harpsichord interlude ever turned up on a CD? I've heard that the only places it has shown up have been the first pressings of The Stone Poney's "Evergreen" LP, and a sixties various artists package from the JCI label.

I love how diverse Linda Ronstadt's musical career has turned out. Her last studio release, Adieu False Heart with Ann Savoy is a particular favorite. That was what- 5 years ago? Hope we hear something new from her soon.

What the heck I can get this for £4.99 shipped and as I have zero Linda Ronstadt in my collection it may serve as an introduction to her many styles for me.
