'The Blues Brothers' heading back to television

The Blues Brothers, Elwood and Jake, are set to return to their original home of television, if Dan Aykroyd can successfully pitch the idea to American networks. Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi's ex-wife, Judy, own the TV rights to Jake and Elwood and, as reported by Variety, are currently pitching the idea of a new show. On the subject of The Blues Brothers return, Judy Belushi said:

Quote:
I think these are great American characters. We want to keep them alive. We chose to introduce them as new characters but do it in an way that they have some history, have some life behind them.

The Blues Brothers started their life on Saturday Night Live in 1978 with a series of sketches. These sketches then led to an album, 'Briefcase Full of Blues'.

From the album came the movie. In 1980, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi teamed up with director John Landis to make the cult classic featuring musical numbers from James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles.

Dan Aykroyd and John Landis attempted to revamp The Blues Brothers in 1998 with Blues Brothers 2000. The film was met with critical derision and appalling box office returns.

Aykroyd is currently trying to get Ghostbusters 3 to the big screen. John Belushi died in 1982.

This has potential, but I highly, highly doubt it will come close to living up to it. This will probably suck if it ever even happens.

For me, the music will make or break it.

If they're going to try this, the premise should be like The Muppet Show -- the Blues Brothers have a club, and the TV show presents both the onstage musical numbers and the ridiculous offstage antics.

I can understand that, but to me it will be the casting. The music is important, but if they can't get a good Blues Brothers pairing it just won't be worth watching.

Like Memphis Beat, I'd be tuning in for the music anyway. If the story and characters are good, too - that's gravy :)

So has anyone see the Blues Brothers Animated Series? Any comment as to the quality there?

Dan Aykroyd really needs to let The Blues Brothers go. It had its day and when Belushi died, it ended for me. It's sad he wants to live off past glories like this and another Ghostbusters movie.

When you get past Austin Powers, he'll move on from the Blues Brothers.

Isn't Ghostbusters just as much Harold Ramis?

Its all of them except Bill Murray who learned his lessons regarding playing the same character again and again and again.

I think the biggest hurdle to GB3 for Murray is that he and Ramis had a professional and personal "falling out" during the production of GROUNDHOG DAY.

I don't think Murray has any interest in working with him again. And he doesn't need the money so no pressure on him.
