Just picked up Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles! Live! for the first time ever. Some great stuff here and you can't beat the early Santana band.

But I am a bit confused: The liner notes say it was recorded January 0 (?), 1972, so how come Gregg Rolie didn't play on this? Neal Schon and some early Santana band members are credited, but Rolie is not. Rolie was the lead singer and organist for the band in 1972, so his absence here puzzles me.

Anyone know why Rolie wasn't a part of this...?

I can't help but laugh at the fact that a guy named "Coke" was in Santana.

So what was Rolie doing while the band played...?

Looks like they could have used some more Percussion...

They would have added another percussionist, but Heroin Brown had the day off.

Acid McElroy apparently wasn't available that day, either.

Mary Juana was backstage waiting to party with the band though...

Smack Johnson is nowhere to be found.

"Smack Johnson" sounds like a typical Friday night around here.

Met Miles once at club gig in the 80's. Went up to him during a break & politely thanked him for all the years of great music. I don't remember his exact reply, but it was NOT gracious.

After what Alan just wrote, I'm wondering if I should post about Crack Escobar.
