I wish. She recorded a short intro based on Johnny Angel for one of Al Franken's regular guests, Jon Alter, and you can listen to it and download it here: http://download10.rbn.com/airam/airam/p ... nalter.mp3
It's on my iPod and I can't stop listening to it.  Hopefully she'll release a full version of the real song in the future.

And why not? One of the best things about the ICE board is the tolerance and respect shown by most members for others' musical taste. You should hear some of the things on my iPod!

joni mitchell repeats a small part of "johnny angel' during her song "beat of black wings" from "chalk mark in a rainstorm'. i'd love to hear her do the whole thing.

I finally got a chance to listen to this MP3 and while it's obviously just Ronstadt goofing off a bit, it does remind me that Ronstadt has been taking herself WAY too seriously for too long now. It would be nice to see her be less political, less in people's faces and just having some fun. An album of Pop classics like Johnny Angel could be just the thing from her. I don't think I've really cared much about anything she's done in the past 25 years. Sure, there was a track or two that I enjoyed during that time, but for the most part, I haven't been interested since "Mad Love" or maybe parts of "Get Closer". I could be intrigued with this sort of release.

The story goes that Fabares, at the time costarring in The Donna Reed Show, was pressured into recording "Johnny Angel." She thought her own vocal talents were inadequate, especially compared to Darlene Love, who sings backup. The fact that it soared to #1 proves that even 45 years ago, studio wizardry could make anybody's voice sound better.
Fabares' "brother" on the show, Paul Petersen, also enjoyed a short recording career, highlighted by the Top 10 single "My Dad."

You have to understand that I'm a baby boomer and Johnny Angel was played a lot when I was in my formative years, i.e., it is burned into my brain. Hearing that familiar melody again with one on the premier female singers of her or any generation lending her vocals to it is just like ear candy to me. I guess I have a sweet tooth.
