Donovan's Sunshine Superman has been released in the UK (available as an import in the U.S.) as a two-disc special edition. The first disc contains a new stereo mix, created from the original multi-tracks, and it sounds amazing. Apparently, the album had never been mixed in stereo before. The second disc contains the original mono version. Both discs are packed with extra tracks. Nice package and booklet, too, and very reasonably priced for a two-disc import.

If you're a Donovan fan, and particularly if you like this album, don't miss this.

Re-Mixed by Steven Wilson ?

Peter Mew. The consensus seems to be that what he did here is light years better than the 2005 remaster, which is not at all well-liked.

It really does sound pretty great.

I found Peter Mew's mastering on this to be equal to the fingernails-on-chalkboard of the 2005 remasters. The treble has been goosed so high, I find it to be is a fatiguing listen, even at lower volumes. Despite the new mix (equally trebly) and extras, I very much regret buying this. I simply cannot listen to it because of the mastering.

I bought this a few weeks ago. Fortunately, I have treble and bass controls on my amp, and a stand-alone EQ unit, so I can adjust those highs. I've had to do that on a LOT of remasters.... I hope there'll be a similar edition for Mellow Yellow, but maybe not since a lot of those songs are on this release.

Hard to believe we're listening to the same disc, but there you go. I listened to the stereo mix again last night, and it sounds very smooth and open to me, not harsh or trebly at all. The mono version, though, is as you describe it, harsh in the treble range. I'm wondering if it's just the 2005 mastering (which I don't have). I do have an older CD, remastered by Vic Anesini, and it's not nearly as bad, although it's still kind of thin-sounding.

I'm convinced, it's on order.

I'm game for this one. I happen to like the past Donovan remasters. Of course I'm also 60 and some of my high end hearing is gone, so to me they sound good.
