Looks like no bonus tracks on the Gene Clark disc, but the email I got from High Moon indicates that there will be a download card included with the CD consisting of "stunning live full-band performances from 1975" and "never before aired 1974 Gene Clark radio interview by B. Mitchel Reed."[/color]

Finally Gene Clark's long out of print album will be released soon in a deluxe edition with bonus tracks. A must buy for all Gene Clark followers. Got the original LP issued in 1997. Should be out on the 31st August


Arthur Lee's Love, the Byrds' Gene Clark Get Deluxe Reissues, Release Party

High Moon Records, a specialty label focusing on the music of the 1960s and '70s. held a record release party and concert April 29 recalling two Sunset Strip legends, Arthur Lee's Love and the Byrds' Gene Clark. Music from the label's first two releases, Love's "Black Beauty" and Clark's "Two Sides to Every Story," were played by musicians who backed the two late band leaders in the '60s and '70s.

The projects distinguish High Moon from other reissue labels -- "Black Beauty," recorded in 1973 by the only all-black lineup of Love, was never released; "Two Sides to Every Story" has been out of print in the United States for more than two decades. Initially scheduled for release on June 7, the two titles have been pushed back due to European rights issues and finalization of bonus tracks, label owner George Wallace said at the show held at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, Calif.

Wallace and the label's general manager Craig Hyman said future projects include reissues of music from Lotti Golden and Sopwith Camel plus unreleased material from the Ace of Cups, the only all-female '60s San Francisco band. They are also in talks to reissue the only Love album not in print, "Reel to Real," and live recordings and video of various acts from the era.home

"We're students of reissue labels," said Wallace, who has based High Moon in New York with co-owner J.D. Martignon. "We see the great things that have been done and try to do them one step better -- better packaging, more liner notes, more unpublished photographs.

"This is a way to beat downloading. There are still people out there looking for aesthetically pleasing packages. Almost anything can be made quasi-commercial if it is contextualized in the right way."

Hyman, who sees the label's mission being a rock 'n' roll version of the folk and blues anthropological work of Harry Smith and Alan Lomax, added, "We're not going into this to have hits. It's to honor a vision and a passion and build a catalog." The Love album will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally; the Clark album, licensed by his estate and Universal Music, will be physical only.

For the record release party, which attracted an healthy crowd of fans of both bands, was the first reunion of Love's Melvan Whittington, drummer Joe Blocker and bassist Sherwood Akuna in 34 years. Clark was represented by the band of his son Kai Clark, who played "Two Sides" straight through, and a reunion of the Gene Clark Group from 1966, whose set included the Byrds classics "Feel a Whole Lot Better" and "Eight Miles High."

"After all these years I'm glad I got to see it come out," said Whittington, who was in contact with Lee up to his death in 2006. "Arthur does some great vocals on that album. I like playing this music so if it happens to (lead to) more gigs, I'd like to have more opportunities to say 'thank you, Arthur.'"

It's great news that Lotti Golden, the great late 60's cult artist will finally be on CD. I hope the reissue is her epic LP "Motor-Cycle," originally released on Atlantic Records.

this gene clark thing has been in the works for a loooonnnnggg time. they definitely have me wanting it. i reallly like "no other". haven't heard "white light".

Do we know yet what the bonus tracks will be?

We've been busy. Can you tell? Well, it's true.

Gene Clark's Two Sides To Every Story and Love's Black Beauty are all set to start production, tomorrow, after we make a final approval on our tip on, old school custom fit jackets. We had to work on them a bit to get them dead right as Black Beauty comes with a 28 page booklet and Two Sides To Every Story, has a 16 page booklet. All full of never-before-seen photo's and essays by the fantastic Ben Edmunds (Love) and John Einarson (Gene Clark).

We'd rather apologize for keeping you waiting, than apologize for a jacket that bowed from all the goodies inside, or with silly typo's or....

It's been a long road, and as High Moon Records first outing - it's been a very ambitious adventure. Why not just jump in the deep end? Much has been learned, created, setup, and prepared. The future should be a piece of cake.

this CD has taken longer to get into stores than anything i've ever seen....it's the new archives!

Man, Renny, you're just like Pavlov's dog. One mention of this reissue and instantly we get a derogatory comparison to Neil Young's Archives. It's been 18 months since this reissue was first announced. That's a pretty long time, but I doubt it's truly "the longest you've ever seen" if you've been following CD reissues for any length of time. It certainly doesn't come close to the several years that went by between announcement and release of Archives 1, and continue to go by for the next installments.

To reprise our discussion over at Hoffman... I don't think it's fair to compare this to Archives because the delays in that set are/were entirely due to arbitrariness and capriciousness by Neil (or extreme perfectionism, if you want to give him the benefit of the doubt). The delays in this reissue have been due to legal problems with securing the rights, difficulties finding the master tapes, and most likely also financial issues inherent in starting up a reissue label. I think anyone who's crazy enough to start a reissue label for obscure old albums in 2012 deserves a lot of credit, not negativity and sniping about delays that are beyond their control.

Finally got my discs from High Moon yesterday. Both Gene Clark and Love are class packages with great liner notes and photos.

$10 for shipping.

It was $11 for both GC and Love. And I believe that the prices of the discs themselves have gone up $2 each since pre-order is over. But they really are extremely nicely done digibooks that I could see being well received if they were imports with a similar price tag, and they have great liners and photos. Linda would probably love the packaging. Me, I would prefer jewel cases with the booklets formatted to standard size, but ...

High Moon make me happy with their packaging, yes. This and the recent Love one ... they really do look "deluxe" when they're done this way, with an implied respect for the importance of the material. And they're very attractive on the shelf.

Amazon now has an image of the Gene Clark digibook which I've added to the first post.

I know you prefer jewel cases for every release, but if the choice is between this design versus a digipak or the cheap multifold cardboard of many deluxe editions, it's like night and day.
