After 40 years and what seems like 40 botched versions under this and a host of alternate titles ("Sweet Love Song of My Soul," "I Won't Call You Back," "To Love Somebody," etc., etc.), the first solo album by Kim Carnes gets remastered. Looks to be mp3 only at this point, but I'll gladly take that if it's been done from the original master tapes.

Every CD release I've heard of this — and I wasted money on plenty of them before finally giving up — was taken from vinyl and most were done from a crappy transfer by some hack who recorded it at the wrong speed — I'd guess around 32 rpm. Consequently, I only ever listen to it on vinyl or on my home-recorded CD.

This one is being released by Essential Media Group, which describes itself as "a South Florida based record label specializing in multiple genres encompassing all eras of Folk, Blues, Jazz, Classical, World, Rock, R&B and Pop including current Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggaeton and Dance/Electronic Music." I'm not familiar with any of their releases; please weigh in here if you have any experience with/opinions about their product.

Wow -- this is great news! I still keep hoping that Hip-o Select will reissue her two A&M albums on CD (or at least Universal Japan as a mini-LP SHM-CD)!

I'd love that, too, Patrick. Just in case you aren't aware of it, the 1999 German "Master Series" compilation contains all tracks from "Sailin'" and 8 songs from "Kim Carnes." The quality is pretty good, too. Not like having the full contents of both in proper order, but far better than nothing. BTW, the "Rest On Me" audio samples on Amazon sound promising. At minimum, they were done at the proper speed.

Has the 12" version of "Crazy in the Night" ever appeared on CD? I was surprised it wasn't included on One Way's release of "Barking At Airplanes" since that CD had bonus cuts.

As far as the first Kim solo album, this is promising news - but how can you be sure this isn't another "cleaned vinyl" release? Is the label promoting this release as "from the original master tapes?"

Clearly done from vinyl, 'tho thankfully at the correct speed. Inexcusably, there are numerous pops and clicks between the 3:00 and 3:30 mark on the title track. Apart from that one, however, it sounds pretty decent given the source.
@EdisonLite: I do not know of any commercially available CD containing the 12" version of "Crazy in the Night."
