Announced by MusicTap. What's in the subject is the sum total of what's known thus far.

Despite the fact that this is the least impressive Coltrane reissue series so far (and not just because it's the newest, it's just lousy), there are still a couple missing (such as OM, which is totally OOP). So... hooray??

I am looking forward to this release, would sure like to see what titles will be included. Not a terrible ambitious reissue project. Each box likely sells less then the last in the series. Just hope they manage to complete it...

Aren't these simply boxed versions of existing catalog titles?

Information from Hip-o Select's page:

5CD

Saxophonist and composer John Coltrane died unexpectedly in July 1967, already a legend at the age of 40. Coltrane left behind great music – and also had recorded prolifically, leaving a treasure trove in the Impulse vault that demanded to be heard.

The John Coltrane Impulse! Albums Volume 4 collects the first five of the various albums that were released posthumously, each in their original configuration: Expression, Live at the Village Vanguard Again!, Om, Cosmic Music (with Alice Coltrane) and Selflessness featuring My Favorite Things. Each contains superb performances that remain cherished by fans for more than 40 years.

The slip-cased collection contains the five albums on CD in individual jewel boxes, with each offering faithful reproduction of the original artwork. Each album has also been remastered for the first time in more than 15 years. This collection, The John Coltrane Impulse! Albums Volume 4, follows the previous three volumes of Coltrane albums released on the renowned Impulse! Records label in his lifetime. Look for The John Coltrane Impulse! Albums Volume 5 to include more of the posthumous Trane albums later this year.

Expression
1. Ogunde 3.36
2. To Be 16.20
3. Offering 8.25
4. Expression 10.50

Live At The Village Vanguard Again!
1. Naima 15.08
2. Introduction To My Favorite Things 6.07
3. My Favorite Things 20.21

Om
1. Om 28.49

Cosmic Music (with Alice Coltrane)
1. Manifestation 11.44
2. Lord, Help Me To Be 7.29
3. Reverend King 10:45
4. The Sun 4.01

Selflessness Featuring My Favorite Things
1. My Favorite Things 17.34
2. I Want To Talk About You 8.19
3. Selflessness 14.55

I figured that, at the very least, OM would be a part of this. That one's been OOP for a while, as has "The Major Works."

Actually, the more I think about this release the more I like it. I only have the VVAgain and I have been waiting for OM. There are a bunch of late 'Trane discs I might choose to be included here but overall this seems like a decent package.

I might actually be in for this one. I did the math, and while the first three boxes are made up of titles that were done better in the mid-90s-to-early-00s 20 bit Impulse remaster campaign (in the black digipacks), and with bonus cuts that didn't make it (these representing the ORIGINAL issues and all). But volume 4 is much more interesting...

--

VOLUME ONE
Africa/Brass - Complete Sessions available
Live at the Village Vanguard - Complete Recordings available, Master Takes w/ bonus OOP
Coltrane - 20 bit w/ bonus and deluxe available
Duke Ellington and John Coltrane - 20 bit OOP
Ballads - 20 bit and deluxe available

VOLUME TWO
John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman - 20 bit and hybrid SACD w/ mono version available
Impressions - 20 bit w/ bonus available
Live at Birdland - 20 bit w/ bonus available
Crescent - 20 bit OOP
A Love Supreme - 2003 release and deluxe available

VOLUME THREE
New Thing at Newport - 20 bit w/ bonus OOP
Plays - 20 bit w/ bonus available
Ascension - 20 bit available (both versions have both takes)
Meditations - 20 bit available
Kulu Se Mama - 20 bit w/ bonus available

VOLUME FOUR
Expression - GRP w/ bonus available
Live at the Village Vanguard Again - 20 bit w/ bonus available
Om - MCA OOP, available as part of GRP Major Works of John Coltrane
Cosmic Music - Hasn't been released on CD in the US!
Selflessness Featuring My Favorite Things - Not reissued as a standalone title. Title track on Major Works, other two tracks on Newport 63, both GRP. Newport set expanded in 2007 as My Favorite Things: Coltrane at Newport.

--

Notes:
The labels represent the three major waves of Impulse CD reissues: MCA (have MCA/Impulse on the disc), GRP (have GRP logo on the front), and 20 bit (the black digipaks).
Some of the 20 bits had bonus tracks. Most of these are still in print, the only exceptions being "Live at the Village Vanguard: The Master Takes" and "New Thing at Newport."
Three deluxe editions were released: Coltrane, Ballads, and A Love Supreme. These are all still in print.
The standard version of A Love Supreme was re-issued in a jewel case; the original masters had been located during production of the deluxe edition.
The note for John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman is pretty self-explanatory.

Thanks for mapping all that out. It certainly confirmed my impression about the previous three boxes and this new one.

I'm not home so I can't check but I think that only part of OM was issued on the Major Works box. I know that the box suggested that entire albums we contained in the set but I think only Ascension was complete. I could be mistaken though.

Maybe there's hope that I'll someday find Stellar Regions in a jewel case...
