Don't know if these are new remasters or reissues of the EMI remasters from the early 2000's. I never got those as I'm not much into the 60's Purple, but if these are reissues and they are reasonably priced or if they are new remasters I might be interested.

I doubt there will be anything new. The owner of the 1968-76 Deep Purple recordings offered EMI the chance to do a new, remixed CD edition of "Shades of Deep Purple". EMI declined. The album was a 4-track production with several 4-track to 4-track reductions per song. For two songs, only the final 4-track "stage" exists, but for the other songs, three 4-track "stages" exist(and the stages could be resynchronised for new mixes). Potentially, there could have been a surround sound version of the album, but EMI didn't want to know.
Still, EMI are (eventually) going to release a "Made in Japan" 6-CD set(brand new 2011 mixes), and a collection of BBC studio tracks(with several newly discovered tracks). But, be cautioned that when EMI does any Deep Purple archival project, that it is(at best) 18 to 24 months to bring it to the market.

The last batch of these were very well done. Bet this is a straight USA reissue of those.

Oh, I'm sure these are just re-issues, but we'll see. I've known about the Made In Japan box for a while now but to be honest I have little interest, because of the endless jamming. I've always found Made In Japan a borefest and I know that's evil to say (at least Metal expert Martin Popoff agrees with me) and the BBC Sessions I'm not interested in much at all.

Eagle Rock have announced a July 26 release for reissues of the first three Deep Purple albums complete with rare bonus tracks, studio outtakes, and more.
It was the summer of 1968. Lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, drummer Ian Paice, bassist Nick Simper and vocalist Rod Evans, known collectively as Deep Purple, released Shades Of Deep Purple. The introduction to America was the Top 5 hit "Hush."

On July 26, Eagle Rock Entertainment will re-release one of the greatest debuts in all of hard rock, Shades Of Deep Purple, in addition to its follow-up, The Book Of Taliesyn (originally released four months later that same year), and their 1969 self-titled third album. All three re-releases come complete with bonus tracks of b-sides, studio outtakes and BBC jams.

Shades Of Deep Purple indeed had many colorations. The high percentage of instrumentals immediately set them apart from their peers. Their covers of The Beatles ("Help"), Cream ("I'm So Glad") and The Jimi Hendrix Experience ("Hey Joe") are totally unique. Clearly, this was a band heralded for greatness.

The Book Of Taliesyn cemented their rep for swirling keyboard drama and the kind of electric guitar soloing that only the greats could pull off. This time the hit was a cover of Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman." But it was the creative reworking of another Beatles tune, "We Can Work It Out," as well as a righteous rockin' treatment of Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep Mountain High," jamming on for over 10 minutes that caught the attention of the underground.

Deep Purple, the album, capped off a tumultuous year in rock'n'roll history (1969). Deep Purple, the band, was obviously meant to start trends, not follow them, which led them to become one of the most influential rock bands in history. Their cover of Donovan's "Lalena" is true to the spirit of the song: simplistically beautiful, one that singer Evans captures dramatically. With a mix of the psychedelic and the growing jam mentality that infused these tracks with dynamic musicianship, originals such as "The Painter" and "Emmaretta" alone carved out a hunk of Blackmore's growing legend. And Lord's liquid organ fills permeated the mix with the kind of high-octane quiver that was cinematic in scope. This is the album that gave a hint to the direction the band would pursue upon vocalist Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover replacing Evans and Simper on the very next album.

I very rarely listen to the first three Deep Purple albums.... they sound dated in a way the later albums never did. Always liked the song "Book Of Taliesyn" though.

I'm a huge Deep Purple fan but there are only a few songs from the Mk1 line up that I like and I have more than enough with what is included on the "Listen Learn Read On" boxset and the "Shades" boxset . As far as a 6 cd "Made In Japan" , I'd grab that in a second .

Other than the box sets (which are out of print), this one MAY be the best:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00000G6FN/?tag=imwan-20

Here's a budget official 3 cd set, no track listing though:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XRA58/?tag=imwan-20

here's another:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SWDU/?tag=imwan-20

I'm surprised how little there actually is.

Renny: if a box set is too much, I think your best bet is this (affordable) 2-CD import from EMI. It has the early hits, lotsa stuff from the 70s, and their comeback 80s radio hits.

And here's the track listing for the 2 disc:

3. Never Before (25th Anniversary Remaster)

8. You Keep On Moving
9. Perfect Strangers
10. Knocking At Your Back Door
11. King Of Dreams
12. Ted The Mechanic
13. Any Fule Kno That

As the 1 weakness of both sets is the 80's Mercury period, the option I would suggest would be to get the 3 disc + this UK Mercury period best of ($3 new on Amazon!). That would get you a very nice 4 disc / 56 song Purple collection for $13!
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SRKE/?tag=imwan-20

The live versions on this (& the studio version of Hush) are almost certainly from the out of print Nobody's Perfect, so there should be very little duplication.

1. Highway Star (Live)
2. Strange Kind Of Woman (Live)
3. Under The Gun
4. Knocking At Your Back Door
5. Perfect Strangers
6. Child In Time (Live)
7. The Unwritten Law
8. Call Of The Wild
9. Woman From Tokyo (Live)
10. Hush
11. Dead Or Alive
12. Hard Lovin' Woman
13. Mad Dog
14. Black Night (Live)
15. Smoke On The Water (Live)

Curious if anyone ever confirmed if the Eagle releases of the Mark I albums are the same remasters as the EMI from 2000?
Huge price differences between the two at Amazon UK, and no way that I can tell. Thanks!

Boy this is a hard one to call - The packaging looks identical to the 2000 EMI remasters by Peter Mew at Abbey Road.
The latest version i have on these is the 2008 Victor Japan mini's. Nowhere on there does it indicate a further remastering..

To complicate things further this is what a reviewer says on Amazon about the 2012 versions - who knows if he is right or knows whereof he speaks...?

For years on CD Deep Purple's debut featuring the Mk1 line up with Rod Evans (Captain Beyond) on lead vocals and their hit single "Hush" was from a dub of the vinyl (the master tapes were shipped to the U.S. label and not returned to EMI until this remaster)now finally for the first time on CD we get the original master tapes as the source for the album.

Remastered in 2000 by Peter Mew the first U.S. reissue of the album finally appears on Eagle Records (the same label that reissued Rory Gallagher's albums on CD)with five bonus tracks, an excellent booklet describing both the creation of the group, the making of the album and the reception (it was a big hit in the U.S. while was received, at least initially, coolly in the U.K.).

Although the remastered version features the characteristic overuse of digital noise reduction that was typical of EMI in 2000 (and was characteristic of Mew's mastering approach at the time), this version STILL beats every other version out there because of the superior source tapes.

We get five bonus tracks of varying quality with "Shadow" an outtake from the album that has been bootlegged for years, "Love Help Me" an instrumental version without the finished vocal, an alternate mix of the band's cover of The Beatles' "Help" (which clearly U2 later listened to as they performed the song as a ballad in concert as early as 1984-5 as a ballad more in line with John Lennon had imagined for the song at the time), "Hey Joe" from the "Top Gear" TV show and, finally, a live performance of "Hush" from a U.S. TV appearance.

Despite the overuse of digital noise reduction this is the edition of the album to own simply because it is from the master tapes (which have also been restored by Peter Mew). For fans who loved the Evans era Deep Purple more than later editions (that would include me), this album is essential.

If this is truly remastered for the first time in 12 years I would definitely be interested, otherwise I can pass....

Anybody have a clue on this?

Where is Phil Cohen when we need him to get the 'inside scoop' ?

I do appreciate the attempt to try and make herads or tails out the situation. I was puzzling over the same quote. It can be read two ways (I guess), that the 2000 remasters where the first in 12 years or the Eagle...

That's why I came to the masters :)

I'm thinking of getting the cheaper versions, and just assume they are the same :)
I mean, how often do I really listen to individual CDs, and they have to be better than some of the budget versions I have.
