Any thoughts?

I actually don't mind this as much, since it's set in the Ultimate universe.

It's an alternate version of a character that has been diluted almost beyond recognition.

I still care when they screw up the core characters, but this is like a Superboy of Earth XYZ.

Haven't read it but fail to see what the big deal is. Nobody got their tits in a ringer when Luke Cage replaced the Thing in FF. So what if a black kid replaces Peter Parker as long as it's a good story.

If anything I think the Ultimate line should have more departures from the mainstream Marvel Universe like this. They're still too much the same making the Ultimate U redundant in my eyes.

Should've been a spider bitten by a radioactive man.

I kind of feel the same way

Ultimate Spider-Man has been consistently great since it started. I don't see that changing any time soon.

I like the move, but it becomes irrelevant to me since it will still be written by Bendis.

Of course, the best part are the reactions. But since this isn't TwatFuck...

So Aunt May got killed, and Ultimate Spidey has some kind of credo about milk and cookies?

So I just read Ultimate Fallout #4. The Spider-Man story wasn't bad. Bendis's writing was typical. So I found it action filled and funny at the same time. I am intrigued because of how the story ran. I want to know how the new kid came upon these powers. Otherwise, till the mask was pulled off, he could just was well been Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

I think that is one of the tough challeges when writing for diversity. If the creator doesn't have enough cultural experience, the kid will still end up sounding like a white highschool kid from Queens. I hope that isn't the case. I want the new kid to be different and have a unique voice. I want there to be a good reason for replacing Peter Parker more so than to give the colorist something different to do.
I will be sticking with Ultimate Spider-Man for a while, but that is because I do enjoy Bendis's work in general and like his approach to teenage superheroes.

This. Also, remember when they turned Frank Castle black in his own book, I don't recall there being a large outcry over that either(of course that was only for two issues 60&61).

That's always been the problem which is why it rarely works because characterization usually comes behind race. Static worked very well and Heinberg did a nice job with Patriot in Young Avengers.

As long as it's a different person I could care less. If they cast a black kid AS Peter PArker in the movie I would not have liked it. However cast him as someone else and I would be fine with, as long as teh characterization is well done and their race is not USED but rather just matter of fact.

And why not? It worked in Blazing Saddles.
