Great Caesar's Ghost! Great Shades of Elvis! Vote now!

I haven't decided between Lane Smith and John Hamilton myself.

John Hamilton was certainly the crustiest, but Frank Langella spun some gold from the dross he was given,so he gets my vote.

I'm waiting for the "Best Live Action Betty White" poll that is sure to follow.

Alan Ludden has a stake in both polls.

John Hamilton's version---maybe it's nostalgia, but that's the one I remember best!!!

Rip Torn is the best Perry White there never was.

Lane Smith. Laurence Fishburn is Perry in the new movie? It won't affect my choice of seeing the movie or not, but it again strikes me as silly and lame to arbitrarily change a character's race just for the sake of some "diversity", and (IMO) sends the rather insulting suggestion that there are no good black characters our there, so "here, have one of our white guys/girls".

So what's worse?

Take a franchise that was created prior to integration, set it in the present day, leave the movie's cast as 100% white.
Take a franchise that was created prior to integration, set it in the present day, integrate the cast by changing a tertiary character from white to non-white.
Take a franchise that was created prior to integration, set it in the present day, introduce additional characters so that you do not have an all white cast.

Fantastic Four did a combination of the last two, which worked for me. Alicia being black didn't hurt anything and they cast Andre Braugher as a new character. The FF movies had a lot of problems, but black Alicia wasn't one of them.

As big a supporting cast as the Superman franchise has to work with, I'd rather that they didn't introduce new characters. (I wasn't a fan of Luthor suddenly having an entourage in that first Superman movie.) I'd rather see a black Perry or a Hispanic Steve Lombard than to have Joe Blow introduced as Clark's roommate.

And if you have to write a black character into the movie, please don't make him a pimp shouting, "Hey Jim! That's a bad out-FIT!"

I agree with Jeff. I dislike this kind of politically correct casting in regards to Fishburne being cast as Perry White.

But ultimately, I just hope The Man Of Steel is a good Superman movie. Period.

To me, LOIS AND CLARK has the best overall casting of any Superman film or tv production. Dean Cain was admittedly an unconventional choice as Superman, but he won me over, and he had pretty good chemistry with Terri Hatcher (easily my favorite Lois Lane!). I also liked the show's second Jimmy Olsen a lot.

:ohyes: With the second Jimmy Olsen, the L&C cast was very, very solid. I even liked John Shea's Luthor, although it was better when he stopped being the villain every single week.

Thinking about Lois and Clark, it reminds me that we've already had a Superman and a Lana of Asian descent, along with an Italian Perry White.

This will be the first time that Perry White will make the movie poster.

Wasn't a reporter at the Planet a black dude? Whatever happened to that guy?

Also, they probably figured they'd capture some of the Sam Jackson as Nick Fury mojo by casting Fishburne.

Well, probably not.

Ron Troupe. And you couldn't think of his name.

Most not-we have no idea that he exists.

So no one remembers Melba Manton? She had her own back-up stories in Lois Lane.
