Product Description
Music comes no bigger than Meat Loaf. After 40 years and selling over 100 million records, among them one of the biggest albums of all time, Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf has been a larger than life presence in music with his unique songs and stellar collaborations.

And now, Meat Loaf does it all again with the release of his new album Hell In A Handbasket, to be released on March 13.

Like most Meat Loaf albums, Hell In A Handbasket is a BIG album with every song delivering a message that alludes to the theme of the album. Meat Loaf describes it as "the most personal record I've ever made. It's about how I feel the world's gone to hell in a handbasket. It's really the first record that I've ever put out about how I feel about life and how I feel about what's going on at the moment."

Produced by Paul Crook, Hell In A Handbasket once again features some interesting collaborations and special guests. Public Enemy’s Chuck D contributes an original rap mixed into a cover of Tom Cochran’s ‘Mad Mad World’. Entitled ‘The Good God’s a Woman And She Don’t Like Ugly’, it’s every bit as interesting as the titles alludes to. Meat Loaf said, “Chuck D is the rapper’s rapper. He is the original, and every rapper that has come after him wants to be like him. For us to have him on this record is a major coup and I am so impressed with what he wrote!”

Lil Jon, another well-known rap artist who appeared in Celebrity Apprentice alongside Meat Loaf, appears on ‘Stand In the Storm.’

Certainly, no album would be complete without long time duet partner Patti Russo who features on two songs: ‘Our Love And Our Souls’ and a version of The Mamas and The Papas classic ‘California Dreamin’.’

'All Of Me'
'Fall From Grace'
'The Giving Tree'
'Mad Mad World'/'Good God Is A Woman And She Don’t Like Ugly'
'Party Of One'
'Live Or Die'
'California Dreamin''
'Another Day'
'40 Days'
'Out Love & Our Souls'
'Stand In the Storm'
'Blue Sky'

Meat Loaf enlists Lil Jon and Chuck D on new record

Meat Loaf has roped in unlikely collaborators Lil Jon and Chuck D for his new album.

The 'Bat Out Of Hell' singer has revealed that he is currently working on three new albums, the first of which, 'Hell In A Handbasket', will feature the rappers in guest appearances.

Meat Loaf met Lil Jon when the pair appeared on Celebrity Apprentice together last spring, while the connection with Public Enemy star Chuck D came through the singer's son-in-law, Scott Ian of Anthrax. "[D] was going to do one thing, and he came back and did something else and we flipped out," he told Billboard.com.

Of 'Hell In A Handbasket', he revealed:

Quote:
[It's] the most personal record I've ever made. It's about how I feel the world’s gone to hell in a handbasket. It's really the first record that I’ve ever put out about how I feel about life and how I feel about what's going on at the moment.

He added that album is "definitely rock" and that it "sounds different"” It will be produced by Paul Crook, from his current touring band, with Rob Cavallo consulting.

Additionally he said he was working on a Christmas album named 'Hot Holidays', along with a third separate album, which he would not name.

I hope the decision to feature rappers in guest appearances will send Meat Loaf's sales to Hell in a handbasket. WTF is he thinking here? I consider myself a big fan of Meat Loaf, but coming on the heels of the execrable "Hang Cool Teddy Bear," I will not give this the first listen. Yet another case of an artist alienating long-time fans in a desperate effort to seem relevant and appeal to the under-25 set.

It's one thing to incorporate rap as an integral part of the song (Chaka Khan featuring Melle Mel on "I Feel for You" is a great example), but that's hardly ever the case anymore. I'm sure artists would be amazed that many of us fans don't buy albums by Texas, Madonna, Keane, Elton John, The Script, et al, to hear rappers — and that some of us will simply create a playlist and/or reburn a second disc that either substitutes a downloaded-by-any-method "non-rap" version or just removes the unwanted track(s) altogether.

[Rant now complete] :sigh:

Three days after passing out at a concert in Pittsburgh, Meat Loaf fainted AGAIN at a show in New Jersey -- and this time ... the 63-year-old singer had to be hooked up to an oxygen machine.

Meat was playing the New Jersey Balloon Festival on Sunday -- and after finishing his set, we're told he collapsed backstage and requested oxygen.

As we previously reported, Meat Loaf suffers from asthma. Thankfully, the singer pulled himself together after ten minutes on the breathing apparatus -- and didn't require further medical attention.

Asthma + overweight = maybe you shouldn't do SUMMER tours.

Glad to hear he seems to be okay. Happier about that than the idea of him working w/Lil Jon and Chuck D.

I love the Loaf, but I don't hold out a whole lot of hope for this album. I hope I'm wrong.

I think Helena Handbasket should sing the duet part in a remake/sequel to "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Call it "Paradise by the iPhone Light".

Chuck D to feature on new Meat Loaf album

Meat Loaf is set to release a new album, 'Hell In A Handbasket', on February 27 in the UK (March 13 in the US).

The album will feature a guest appearance from Public Enemy's Chuck D, who appears on a cover version of Tom Cochrane's 1991 track 'Mad Mad World'. Of his appearance, Meat Loaf has said:

Quote:
Chuck D is the rapper's rapper. He is the original, and every rapper that has come after him wants to be like him. For us to have him on this record is a major coup and I am so impressed with what he wrote!

Meat Loaf added that the album is "the most personal record I've ever made. It's about how I feel the world's gone to hell in a handbasket. It's really the first record that I've ever put out about how I feel about life and how I feel about what's going on at the moment."

The album, which also features a cover of The Mamas and The Papas's 'California Dreamin'', was produced by Paul Crook. Rapper Lil Jon appears on the track 'Stand In the Storm'.

'Hell In A Handbasket' is Meat Loaf's 12th studio album.

The 'Hell In A Handbasket' tracklisting is:

'All Of Me'
'Fall From Grace'
'The Giving Tree'
'Mad Mad World'/'Good God Is A Woman And She Don’t Like Ugly'
'Party Of One'
'Live Or Die'
'California Dreamin''
'Another Day'
'40 Days'
'Out Love & Our Souls'
'Stand In the Storm'
'Blue Sky'

I can understand how Jim Steinman's writing/producing can rub people the wrong way. But I just love Steinman's work. Whenever Meat Loaf does an album with Steinman it's an absolute no-brainer purchase for me...but I don't have very much interest in a Steinman-less Meat Loaf album.

I do hope it delivers the goods for those that like all of Meat Loaf's work.

"Bat Out Of Hell 3" is a guilty pleasure for me. Every few months, when I'm taking an extended drive somewhere, I'll bring it along and crank it up.

I think that album is phenomenal! Of course, it has several Steinman tracks, and the others are at least "Steinmanesque".

Pretty freaky...it appears that depending on where the album is released, the cover is adjusted accordingly.

North America...

Europe...

That is really cool. Probably the only good thing about the album...

I've been through the album a couple of times now. My early impression (which is usually very subject to change!) is that it's not as bad as I feared it would be, but not nearly as good as I wish it had been. I'll have to give it more time. I thought that the piano playing was often quite good. I'm assuming, based on what I've read, that it's his band playing on all the songs, but I sure thought that some of the piano sounded like Roy Bittan.
