"25 Years" is the title of a Sting 3-CD + DVD box coming in September. Despite recording enough non-L.P. rarities in his post-Police career to fill three and a half discs, NONE OF THEM will be included in this forthcoming box set. This is appalling. Who does Universal think is going to buy this turkey?
Fortunately, A&M Records' foreign affiliates have compiled some of Sting's rare tracks, such as the Japan release "Sting at The Movies" & the Russian 2-CD set "B-Sides & Rarities"(yes, the Russian set is legit, on the A&M label). However, none of Sting's pre-1993 rare tracks have been offered on CD anywhere.

From antimusic.com:
The Sting: 25 Years box set will be released on September 27, 2011. Featuring three CDs comprised of 45 remastered tracks personally curated by Sting, a previously unreleased live concert DVD and a comprehensive hardcover book, this retrospective captures for the first time both the highlights and rarities of Sting's enduring solo career. This consummate collection contains selections spanning his entire solo catalog, from his 1985 debut album, The Dream Of The Blue Turtles, to his latest release, Live in Berlin. Highlights include all of Sting's top 40 hits as well as Grammy® winners "Brand New Day," "The Soul Cages," "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You," and "Whenever I Say Your Name" featuring Mary J. Blige .
Sting: 25 Years was produced by Rob Mathes and Executive Produced by Sting's longtime manager, Kathryn Schenker. The box set also contains nine songs remixed by Robert Orton and Steve Fitzmaurice exclusively for this collection.
Rough, Raw & Unreleased: Live At Irving Plaza, the previously unreleased live concert DVD, features 10 tracks culled from newly unearthed raw performance footage filmed in New York City on the final night of Sting's U.S. "Broken Music" tour in 2005.
The discs are housed in a hardcover book containing intimate and rare photos from world renowned photographers, complete lyrics, personal commentary and a newly written introduction by Sting.
Richly diverse in musical content and visually captivating, Sting: 25 Years is a compelling tribute to the restless spirit of an artist who continues to evolve and explore new musical territory.

It's pretty obvious Sting is tapped out creatively. He hasn't done an album of new material since 2003, and that album was far from his best work.
Sting can put out whatever he likes, but there's nothing here that would induce me to buy it, as I have most of his solo albums.
I don't know why he's holding back on the rarities, because now would be the time for a physical release of such material...to sell to old CD folggies like me.

Pass! Sting has turned into a worthless wanker and I couldn't care less about something like this. I might have been interested in a set with copious rarities, particularly "January Stars", but this smells like nothing more than a sell-out for the Christmas season.

It's a pretty good career survey, but something of this size is highly unlikely to be a big seller. I will say the DVD may be very well worth watching because around that time Sting and his band were rocking hard shockingly and doing a ton of Police songs which I believe led to the Police reunion of 2007-08. I'm not sure if this DVD is from that tour but I think it is. Sting hasn't done anything worth a damn since Ten Summoner's Tales his last great album in 1993. After that he was riding Michael Bolton's coattails. But a box of rare tracks could easily fill 3 discs and I have a lot of them from the days of Napster but I'd buy a box of his rare tracks many of which were excellent.

Sounds like a ICE custom CD project if ever there was one...

it would be a huge undertaking. i think sting had a single with 3 unreleased songs for every one song that was released.
