(After making love to the femme fatale Fiona Volpe.)

BOND: You don't think I enjoyed what we did this evening, do you? What I did tonight was for King and country! You don't think it gave me any pleasure, do you?
FIONA: But of course, I forgot your ego, Mr. Bond. James Bond, who only has to make love to a woman and she starts to hear heavenly choirs singing. She repents and immediately turns to the side of right and virtue, but not this one. What a blow it must have been, you having a failure.
BOND: Well, you can't win them all.

KIRK: You go slow, be gentle. It's no one-way street...you know how you feel and that's all. It's how the girl feels too. Don't press. If the girl feels anything for you at all, you'll know.

ROBIN: "What's so important about Chopin?"
BATMAN: "All music is important, Dick. It's the universal language. One of our best hopes for the eventual realization of the brotherhood of man."
ROBIN: "Gosh Bruce, yes, you're right. I'll practice harder from now on."

To my own surprise, I had to go Kirk. I thought I'd vote Bond but when I think about all the great TOS episodes that Kirk blew me away in with his unshakeable ethics, two-fisted masculinity, and moral resolve, I couldn't help but put him on top.

Still, Connery banged way more chicks out. So there is that.

Dr. Quest's secret lover is nice and all, but I wanted to pair great actors with great characters on this one.

These are the reasons Bond takes it:

1. His actual popularity skyrocketed in the 60's, as opposed to the slow-burning nerd-fest that was Star Trek. In retrospect, it was one of the first cult favorites, but wasn't widely popular IN the 60's. So Bond sits better in the mind as "King of the 60s."

2. Bond was actually set in the 1960's, full of 60's glamor aesthetic. Kirk was not an iconic visual representing the 60'd.

3. The Cold War was actually going on in the 60's, so again, a spy sits better as "King of the 60s."

4. The greatest Bond was Sean Connery, who did his greatest work in the 60s and left the role. So, again.

5. Kirk was a lame character in a lame series only liked by lame people.

True fact. Tautologous but true.

I think of the Enteprise and Star Trek as being very representative of 60s sci fi in terms of set design and FX capabilities but I'm looking backward from now, as opposed to you, who was in his mid-40s during the time period.

I could not disagree with Jay more. Kirk represents the 60s vision of sending man into space and beyond.

But you understand what I mean -- it wasn't set in the 1960's. It's circular to go "well this was very popular as an example of sci fi and FX."

I meant the clothing, the smokes, the hair, the cars -- Bond is the ultimate 60's aesthetic.

Ahhh I really like Star Trek just not the fervour it seems to engender...like, it's not.enough to like it you have to REALLY like it and know what all the episodes are CALLED and be able to name the actors as though they are personal friends and all that nonsense...but William Shatner is dreadful actor

Mystery Inc. co-captain (with Velma) Fred Jones debuted in 1969, so he's just in the running.

The character of Fred Jones was pitched to Hanna Barbera as "A metrosexual Race Bannon."

Truth.
