This is awesome news. The only L & H material I've ever seen on DVD are the crappy MGM features of the 1940's. This may be the first truly worthy L & H package, not just of the DVD era, but the home video era--back in the early 80's, Blackhawk Films (which also sold 16mm and Super 8 prints of Hal Roach L & H shorts and features) released a handful of home video compilations, and in the 90's I managed to pick up some cheap VHS tapes of "Sons Of The Desert" (one of the funniest movies ever made) and "Way Out West", but I haven't seen any of the Hal Roach shorts since I was a teenager, when WKBD 50 in Detroit used to show them at midnight on alternate weeks.

The Music Box is the greatest "short" of all time. The staircase where it was filmed can still be found on line.

I've finally got around to starting to view these (they wouldn't play in my laptop, but
they're running just fine in the iMac I've borrowed from my college). Great stuff. I
find myself laughing out loud at some of the pratfall material. Which is odd, because
things like that in the Three Stooges really do nothing for me. There's just something
about how Stan Laurel can pull it off.

It's also interesting to me to see extended versions of these films. Well, not so much
extended as uncut. Many of them I've only seen on Sunday morning TV in the 1970s
or on my Dad's 8mm films of them. The 8mm films were often abridged, and likely the
TV episodes were trimmed for time constraints.

Great package.Wish they would put out a similar set for all their silent films.

Just this past June, missing footage from "The Battle Of The Century"--a silent Laurel & Hardy short long thought to exist only in an incomplete form--was discovered: http://silentlondon.co.uk/2015/06/15/se ... pie-fight/

The Three Stooges lifted the opening scene of Towed In A Hole for one of their shorts, almost word for word. They also stole a lot from Keaton, including the "Curly shuffle" move (see Keaton's Three Ages).
Stooges? The Three Copycats is more like it.
