This may have been posted at some point but I didn't see any posts regarding it, so I'm doing one now!
An interesting Van Morrison comp, apparantley with his input, of his songs that have appeared in films over the years will be out Feb. 12 A pretty good and somewhat eclectic mix of his songs.
I don't have much of Van's music but I'll probably get this. Has his back catalogue been sufficiently remastered? Of all his albums the ones I want the most are His Band And Street Choir, Avalon Sunset and Days Like This.
The story on the new comp:

Van Morrison has announced that he will release a compilation album called At The Movies.

The album will feature a selection of the artist's songs that have featured in films over his career. There will be 19 tracks in total, from films including Thelma & Louise and An Officer And A Gentleman.

The album is scheduled for release on February 12 of next year.

The full track listing is as follows:

1. 'Gloria' (The Outsiders)
2. 'Baby Please Don't Go' (Wild At Heart)
3. 'Jackie Wilson Said' (I'm In Heaven When You Smile) (Pope Of Greenwich Village)
4. 'Domino' (Clean & Sober)
5. 'Moondance' (An American Werewolf In London)
6. 'Queen Of The Slipstream' (Extreme Close-Up)
7. 'Wild Night' (Thelma & Louise)
8. 'Caravan' (The Last Waltz)
9. 'Wonderful Remark' (King Of Comedy)
10. 'Brown Eyed Girl' (Born On The 4th Of July)
11. 'Days Like This' (As Good As It Gets)
12. 'Into The Mystic' (Patch Adams)
13. 'Hungry For Your Love' (An Officer And A Gentleman)
14. 'Someone Like You' (French Kiss)
15. 'Bright Side Of The Road' (Fever Pitch)
16. 'Have I Told You Lately?' (One Fine Day)
17. 'Real Real Gone' (Donovan Quick)
18. 'Irish Heartbeat' (The Matchmaker)
19. 'Comfortably Numb' (The Departed)

Thanks Linda-didn't know about all the live versions! I assume "Comfortably Numb" is from The Wall Live In Berlin show w/ Roger Waters from 1990?

Clearly driven by the success of The Departed, but at first glance also serves as a decent hits compilation...

Oh, I sense a new trend a coming, which can be good, considering how there's a quite a few 'soundtrack only' tracks out there for some artists.

I like this concept. I've got a great song list for a CD-r project called Bowie at the Movies, just have to actually put it together sometime.

Sting had a similarly themed release in Japan...

According to an e-mail I received from Van's online store, the version of "Moondance" is a previously unreleased live track, recorded in 1986 at the Greek Theater in L.A.-- with strings!

Yeah, I have to say, this is a pretty neat concept for a tired genre (best-ofs) and there are many artists who have had numerous movie-only songs along with previously released songs in movies who could have similar comps like The Pretenders, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen or Cheap Trick (god, there are so many Cheap Trick film-only songs, what a cool copm that would be!).
Anyway, I'm sure there are liscensing issues, but maybe we'll see more.
Either way, I'll be getting this one, especially with that version of "Moondance" and "Comfortably Numb"!

I actually mentioned this to Tom Peterson about 10 years ago. He reacted with total shock that anyone would be interested in such a collection.

Obviously the idea had never occured to him.

Too bad cause there's some good tunes out there that would be great on an official release!
