Disney begin work on 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5'

Disney have hired Shrek writter Terry Rossio to pen a fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean film - despite the fourth film not being out until May. Alongside writing partner Ted Elliott, Rossio has written all four of the Pirates films thus far, but this time he's set to write the as yet untitled fifth movie alone, reports Deadline.com.

Disney are also hoping to bring back the fourth film in the franchise's director Rob Marshall for the fifth Pirates, alongside Johnny Depp.

Depp has already shown interest in a fifth film, saying: "As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it."

The fourth film in the movie series, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, opens in 3D on May 20.

Johnny Depp unsure over 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5'

Johnny Depp is still not sure about making another Pirates Of The Caribbean film, he has revealed. Depp stars as Captain Jack Sparrow in the forthcoming fourth installment of the hit seafaring franchise, which opens later this month.

But he is by no means yet committed to a fifth film, despite a script having been delivered, he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Depp said: "Boils down to story, script and filmmaker. It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month and get it out by Christmas 2012. We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."

He also recently joked about an idea he had for the next two films: "I have a clever idea for Pirates 5 and 6. We’re actually going to shoot it on the (Disneyland) ride. Just us going round in a circle."

If the Lego game is any indication, the 4th should be a hoot. An easily followed story (works well in mime) and some cool visuals.

Tim Burton to direct 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5'?

Tim Burton is being eyed to direct the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. Johnny Depp's longtime collaborator is apparently top of the list to look after the actor's potential fifth outing as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The initial trilogy in Disney's seafaring franchise were helmed by Gore Verbinski, while the current film On Stranger Tides was looked after Rob Marshall. But with Marshall yet to sign for a follow-up, the studio has assembled a list of directors to replace him, according to Cinema Blend.

Alongside Burton, preferred names include Shawn Levy, Sam Raimi, Chris Weitz and Alfonso Cuaron. Disney apparently wanted Burton for the fourth movie but could not reach a deal.

However, Depp himself has yet to officially commit to a fifth film, saying: "Boils down to story, script and filmmaker. It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month and get it out by Christmas 2012. We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."

Depp and Burton will work together next on Dark Shadows.

Johnny Depp close to signing for fifth 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' movie

Johnny Depp is on the verge of signing up for a fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, it has been reported.

Disney are eager to continue the lucrative franchise for a fifth and sixth film, but so far their star, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, has yet to sign on.

A source close to the negotiations has claimed that the actor and the studio are close to closing a deal, according to The Wrap.

Earlier this year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that he was working on a script for a fifth film, but that he would not make it without Depp. He said: "Hopefully, if this one does well, [Depp] will want to come back and play the character again. But it's going to depend on the screenplay. It always does. He's maniacal about not wanting to disappoint his audience."

By "this one", Bruckheimer meant the fourth film On Stranger Tides, which yesterday (July 5) it emerged had become only the eighth film in history to break the $1 billion barrier at the box office.

Is Tim Burton ever going to do an original film ever again...?

He's just the remake/franchise guy now. What happened to him...?

I agree. Although I must admit I'm curious about the Depp-Burton Dark Shadows. You know, the way you're curious about a hermaphrodite or someone with a hideous scar or some birth defect.

Was Big Fish Burton's last original movie?

I believe so.

I almost expect someday to see Johnny Depp as Don Corleone in Tim Burton's Godfather.

My favorite Tim Burton quote (in part because it's dead on accurate): "I wouldn't know a good script if it bit me in the face."

No one else made a movie based on Big Fish, so I would class that as original. The lone non-remake of the last decade or so, at any rate. Burton apparently has lost his creative juice and relies on the remakes/rehashes to prop up his career now.

I'd rather a Nightmare Before Christmas 2.

That one, Sleepy Hollow and Nightmare are the only three that still hold up for me. Otherwise, Tim Burton can just fuck right off.

I thought so after the third one (which was awful, IMO...unwatchable), but I think it got back to what made the first one so enjoyable with this one.

No one else had made a movie version of the Sweeney Todd musical, either.

I'm still a huge Burton fan (although I skipped Alice in Wonderland), and can't wait for Dark Shadows. Of his films, I still really love Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare Before Christmas, and even Batman Returns with all its flaws. Corpse Bride was fun, too. His sci-fi movies are the only ones that hold zero interest for me---Planet of the Apes and Mars Attacks.

Ed Wood and Pee Wee's Big Adventure are my favorite Burton-directed films. I remember liking Sleepy Hollow at the time ... I'm not sure if it would hold up for me with repeat viewings.

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my all-time favorite films. But to get technical ... while Nightmare has obviously got Burton's stamp all over it, he didn't direct that one.
