Blondie set to release new album in 2011

Blondie have revealed that they will release a new album in 2011.

Initially due out just in Australia this November, 'Panic Of Girls', the follow-up to 2003's 'The Curse Of Blondie', will be released in the UK and the US next year.

"We tried to make the recording process as organic as possible," drummer Clem Burke told Billboard.com. "[We] tried to stay away from programming as much as we could, because ['The Curse Of Blondie'] had a lot of programming on it. So, in the spirit of Woodstock, we kept going in the studio and playing."

The group have been previewing a few songs live recently, including 'What I Heard', 'The End' and 'Mother', with Burke admitting that the audience have been reacting well to the new tracks in their set.

"We've been getting a great reception with the new material," he explained. "We're doing about five or six of them in the show, which is kind of difficult for people, hearing new material for the first time at a show. But we've been doing really well with it."

They played 4 or 5 of these when we saw them a couple of weeks ago - and the new songs were really good! They opened with a new song "D-Day" and then mixed the others in throughout the set. It all flowed nicely - unlike Huey "I'll open with 9 crappy new songs" Lewis. I'm really looking forward to the new Blondie release. My daughter already has a "Panic of Girls" T-shirt.

The Curse Of Blondie was one of my favorite albums of 2003 and I can't believe it's already been 7 years since that release.

Thanks, David. I've added details to the first post also. This release is an import-only limited "Fan Pack Edition" of the CD which comes with 2 bonus tracks plus a magazine. (There's no sign yet of a Standard Edition, let alone a domestic pressing.)

I already have my order in for this at AmazWan UK. Saw Blondie last summer and they played 4 tracks from this - and they were fantastic!

My daughter had been wearing a Blondie "Panic of Girls" shirt for almost a year - and still no album!

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Blondie have announced that they will release a new album this fall. Rolling Stone magazine has reported that Panic of Girls is due out in September.

However, the album will also be available on June 1 as part of a limited edition “fan pack,” via Blondie’s website. The special release comes with a 132-page magazine that delves into the making of the album, the band’s history and more.

Panic of Girls, the band’s first album since 2003’s The Curse of Blondie, features a song called “Mother” as its lead single. The album was produced by Killers collaborator Jeff Saltzman and Paramore producer Kato Khandwala. It features co-founders Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke along with contributions from The Cars’ Elliot Easton.

My business has a bunch of copies of the live album from the last reunion. Anyone know if it's any good? I.E. is it worth me opening one & checking it out?

I am really enjoying this album! I wasn't very crazy about Debbie's last album or Blondie's last album either, so this is a pleasant surprise!

The last album was really, really bad and was trashed by fans and critics. Would you say this is better because the last album was so bad, or does it stand on it's own? With people like Elliot Easton and Jeff Saltzman involved, I have some hope. And, are there some good Dance-oriented tunes?

You don't make it clear which album you are referring to as "really, really bad and was trashed by fans and critics"--Blondie's last album "The Curse Of Blondie", which I professed having an affinity for above or Debbie Harry's last cd "Necessary Evil"? I haven't listened to any of her solo stuff since "KooKoo", which I liked due to Chic's involvement.

Have been trying to like this for a week now, and it just isn't working. Too many reggae stylings for me. I strongly prefer Dance Floor Debbie to Dancehall Debbie. "Mother" and "China Shoes" are pretty good, though, and "Horizontal Twist" is interesting (and growing on me).

I haven't wanted to be a party pooper, but I just can't get into this one, either. Some interesting tracks, but this just doesn't sound like Blondie to me. "Curse of Blondie" had to grow on me, but I just can't get a foothold this time.

Revised US release date and tour news below from http://www.blondie.net. Unfortunately the Atlanta date coincides with a business trip to DC, so I will miss out this time. Might not care much for the CD, but Debbie Harry is always a draw for me.

Blondie has announced a North American Fall tour behind their 9th studio album, Panic of Girls, set for release on September 13th, 2011, via the band's own imprint. With an impressive new collection of songs and a sound more recognizable than ever, Debbie Harry, Clem Burke and Chris Stein, along with newer band members Leigh Foxx, Tommy Kessler and Matt Katz-Bohen, will kick off the tour on September 4th. The band will bring the incredible new tracks and Blondie hits to crowds from coast to coast before wrapping on October 8th. Tickets go on sale beginning July 8th.

First single "Mother," a nod to the legendary West 14th Street night club of the same name, has been instantly embraced by fans and the video for the song recently set the web abuzz. See it here. Panic of Girls, colored with inspirations from New York City's roiling melting pot and street-level pop culture, hearkens back to the core of Blondie's genius while remaining positively fresh. Collaborating with producers Jeff Saltzman (the Killers, Fischerspooner) and Kato Khandwala (Paramore, Papa Roach) for the first time, Blondie has created one of their most astounding albums in their storied 37-year career. New wave dance gems, songs sung in French and Spanish and even a reggae cover are threaded together with a timeless pop sheen giving an irresistible glisten to the album - simply perfection.
