OK-I love soccer and sure, a lot of Americans don't. But, MLS is doing very well and the play keeps getting better and better. I was at the Union-Salt Lake game in Philly Saturday, which was an SRO crowd and there were 2 really nice goals, but later that night I watched the Seattle-Vancouver game, which was a great match as you had another sellout of 36,000+ in Seattle and this was the first meeting of these rival cities since the old NASL days (Vancouver is an expansion team). The goal by Eric Hassli (who is really good) for Vancouver that tied it was, well, unreal. Some say it's the best goal in MLS history and one of the best in soccer history. The amazing thing is-he was trying to do it and did it! Please offer your thoughts as a soccer or non-soccer fan and watch the 2 replays. WOW!

That was an incredible strike!
Almost as amazing was this penalty kick from an Italian seventh-division match.
The kick hit the crossbar and bounced back. While the goalie was celebrating, the backspin on the the ball caused it to roll into the goal, and the officials ruled it a score

The goalie was especially dumbassed for celebrating so much in the first place. It's not like he's the one who blocked it....

That Hassli goal - when I first saw it, I thought it was a tad overhyped (by a headline on Yahoo, not what was said here). When I first watched it, I was kind of "eh". Then I watched it again and again and again (and saw a low angle replay - maybe here). I've watched my son play soccer long enough to appreciate how hard it is to hit that ball in the way he did out of midair. The goalie didn't expect that shot at all. The only thing that I can't give him credit for is the placement - I can't believe he was shooting for that spot. But that aside, the fact that he put it there is incredible.
I haven't seen too many of those at U8.
