I loathe this band with every fiber of my being, so I can't help you out, but I posted this for the people who do like them-and I was surprised to see that this comp was never on CD before.

In my Junior High circle, it was trendy to hate GF, so of course at the age of 13 I did. Problem is I also loved the first live album (still do) , it took years to deal with the psychosis thereby caused!
I will admit I only like their earlier material today though, after the 1970 live album (or perhaps the 1971 live album issued a few years back) they got too commercial for me.

I always dug this album. Glad to see this FINALLY coming out, and with Vic Anesini remastering this, this should sound killer. Extreme subwoofer workout forthcoming.

Yeah, the stoner years, what can I say? The music was simplistic so when you are young, just starting out as a musician you could play this stuff. Very loud with balls to the walls.
Had much fun when when I was kid, no different when years later punk happened for the same reasons, garage music that was easy to play and you get a band going in a week.

I agree, for a 13 yo, GF was easy to play!

I had that lp. Its probably upstairs somewhere.
I loved Grand Funk when I was a kid (they played Shea!) and still do. Big fan of their monster hit "We're An American Band" and "I'm Your Captain" and "The Loco Motion".
I keep one of their comp CDs always in my car (as anyone who's ridden around with me would know).
Now here is a comp that has extreme sentimental value to me!!!!

I really despise them but I do like one song "Honey Bee" from the Heavy Metal soundtrack when they reformed in 1981. Not sure if that was also on an album. But I thought people would have memories of this one, thus I posted it!

"I'm Your Captain" has to be one of the best sounding songs of all time. That one just hits the sweet spot on any system I've ever heard it on....even in a car. Those early GF albums sounded great.

Actually "Queen Bee" and yeah, a good song.
Totally with JohnG, I remember when I was kid and my Dad was driving us (my family) down to the beach house in Lavallette, NJ and "I Am In Your Captain" came on and my Dad cranked it (who wasn't really into rock) with no protest from my Mom. My Dad stated that it was one of the best rock songs he ever heard and we all were singing the chorus "I am your Captain, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" as we continued on the Garden State Pkwy . Most very fond memory!

"Queen Bee"! Yes-shows how often I've heard it. It doesn't sound like any of their other material. Although I can't stand them-these guys had a MASSIVE amount of success in a very short period of time, and if Zappa and Rundgren produced them hey-I'll give 'em points.

Though its not a very good album, I do love the song Shinin' On from 1974. Bought that one on vinyl and it came with 3D glasses. One of their biggest hits (the remake of The Loco-Motion) is on there too. Also the song "To Get Back In" is pretty good. Todd Rundgren produced it and it sounds like it.
Anybody else get this one that year?

I was never a Grand Funk fanatic but they are a part of my musical history. "Paranoid" was one of the very first songs I latched onto when I started listening to collage radio around 1970. I also liked "I'm Your Captain" and "Inside Looking Out," which I did not know was an Animals cover until much later. Later on "We're An American Band" rocked my world, though I always assumed (hoped?) it was a bit tongue in cheek.
The critics always hated these guys but I think they would be more accepted if they came along today. Speaking of which, I wonder if this CD reissue will have all the negative newsclippings that were part of the original package?
