I have a lot of experience with Bags Unlimited and by and large, my experiences with them have been good. They're a little pricey though, even when considering that their prices include shipping.

I stumbled into a new place (for me) recently and had a very good experience. They don't have near the selection that Bags Unlimited has, but for some basic stuff, they're a good deal cheaper.

http://www.checkoutstore.com/

Here was my experience. I ordered 100 2-CD jewel cases with white trays as well as a few other small things. I placed this order last Tuesday(10/21) and a box appeared on my doorstep in the People's Republic of Massachusetts on Wednesday(10/22). Yes, that's right, the next day! I opened the box Thursday(10/23) night and found that they'd made an error and sent me 100 1-CD jewel cases with white trays instead of the doubles. I called them Friday(10/24) morning and reported the problem. They apologized profusely that I wouldn't have the replacements until Monday(10/27) since they ship UPS. They let me keep the 100 1-CD cases and sure enough, yesterday, the 100 2-CD jewel cases arrived. In short, the whole thing took place faster than most normal shipments.

I judge people that I buy from online not only by how quickly and accurately they ship, but also by how they handle problems. This place gets a solid A+ from me for their customer service and the whole experience was very good.

Take a look at some of their standard items, add shipping (which wasn't too bad!) and see how they compare to Bags Unlimited for the things you need. I was pleased and no, I have no affiliation with this company!

Looks like good prices on TY media as well...I use SuperMediaStore for that stuff since they guarantee their TY stock is real, and they usually do free shipping on 100 pieces, but these guys look like contenders.

100 taiyo-yuden CD-R's for $22, not bad, but they are out of stock.

Here's the problem I have: I'm in dire need of replacement double CD cases -- not the chubby ones, but the now-standard same-size-as-single cases, with the clear trays. (These always seem to break somehow in transit.) But all I can find are the ones with the "teeth" that hold in the booklet, rather than the "bars." I hate the former and want the latter. If you look at the photo of the one Checkout Store sells, you can clearly see those booklet-biting teeth. I'm afraid to buy double cases from any e-tailer, because I'm afraid I'll get a bunch of the ones I don't want. And of course, no one specifies which style they sell.

Does anyone know for sure where I can get ones with bars instead of teeth?

Ven,

I order clear double trays from Bags Unlimited, but you have to get the trays separate from the jewel cases. The good thing with getting the trays separately is that you can put them in any jewel case.

I also always change out doubles that have those "teeth" in order to salvage the booklets. I keep the teeth doubles for CD-Rs, etc.

I must be blind...I can't see "teeth" in the pix. I'm curious now.

I hate the marks they leave behind too.The bars are better, but those cases that have the bars don't have the middle set of knobs that hold the cd booklet flat and prevent bowing.

See the dots along the right-hand side of the front? Those are the teeth. And they bite. :gator:

When you say they can be used in "any jewel case," do you mean they can replace the trays in standard single cases, thereby converting them into doubles? How does that work, when single cases don't have the extra little holes needed for the side hinges? Or do you mean they fit into 2CD cases that I still have to buy separately? If it's the latter, I still don't know where to get ones with bars. All of the double cases they show have teeth, too.

Sorry, I'm confused....

Ven, you could try Trackback in the UK. They advertise in Record Collector every month.

Ven,

It's the former. The standard single cases wouldn't need side hinges; the tray itself is hinged. Not sure if they still sell them separately, though.

Thanks, Geff. I've just e-mailed American-Digital to ask them whether their double cases have bars or teeth. The picture on their site looks promising, but you never know....

BUMP... Ven's issue is now my issue. Any vendor recommendations for 2CD "bar" (no "teeth") jewel cases?

I must be blind AND confused, are you talking about the 2 half-circle tabs on the inside top and bottom of the cover that the booklet slides under and is secured by? I have never seen a cd case without them and I have about 3000 empty ones from having put my cds in vinyl sleeves.

That case still has the 2 tabs along the top and bottom that hold the booklet, so I'm still confused.

My response was intended for callijawn for a source. I have used Sleevetown and recommend them highly.

As I understand Ven's complaint, it is the teeth that run along the right side of the front of those jewel case fronts. The ones that Sony uses for their Essential series always gouge and/or tear the right side of booklets.

My favourite jewel cases were the ones that Sony Japan used to issue, with the extra bar that ran the full height of the case. The booklets barely moved at all, but the bar was thin so the booklet could easily be removed without bending/creasing. I don't know if they have a special name ... I've never seen them for sale separately.

The american Digital link I posted in 2008 is no longer something I'd reccomend; the USPS told them no more media mail & their shipping prices have become outlandish.

Ironically, I posted the same question SOMEWHERE on this board in the last year, & was satisfied with what I got from someone's suggestion, but 0 memory of who the company was!! ( & I need a new batch of slim 2x's also!).
