The compilation covers the entire gamut of the rock`n'roll era: rocking instrumentals, teen rock`n'roll, R&B, doo wop, girl groups and a little pop, soul and terrific jazz. The compilation and notes are by label specialist John Broven.

Hip names include the Wailers, Mando & the Chili Peppers, Coleman Hawkins, Larry Dale and Billy Mure.

20 of the 48 tracks are new to CD; and only 13 tracks previously issued on Ace/Kent. Only four cuts (three by the Wailers) are currently available on Ace or Kent. There are three previously unissued tracks from the Wailers' demo session in 1958.
