just got this on facebook from steve wilson......

Since Ian Anderson has been talking about this, I guess it's now official. I recently completed a brand new mix of Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" for a 40th anniversary edition. As always the remix is super faithful to the original, but with much improved sonic clarity (something that just can't be achieved with remastering). Also remixed for inclusion were many other studio tracks from the 1970-71 period (several previously unreleased), and a 5.1 mix. It should be out on EMI in September.

It is known that Jethro Tull were trying out the "Aqualung" songs live even as the studio recordings were still underway, and, as the arrangements changed through those early live performances, Ian Anderson decided to re-record several songs to reflect the changed arrangements. There is also an early studio take of "My God" with Glenn Cornick on bass, but Anderson has refered to it as "A piece of s@#t", and it is unlikely he'll permit it to be released.

I remember getting the 25th anniversary edition of this CD.
Hopefully the new edition will contain many more unreleased tracks rather than the BBC crap they keep adding.

I had been asking recently about whether Aqualung would ever be properly treated. It's the only Tull album out of all of them I do not own because the previous remaster was crap.
This is awesome news and explains the current tour as well.

OK, i've heard the DCC hoffman remaster (even have a CD-R of it) and it sounds absolutely brilliant. it is also ridiculously expensive for any decent copy.

the 25th remaster, which i have, is lifeless and shitty, horribly shitty. a remixed version could, or could not, be good, it will have to be heard.

i just wish i could find a decent DCC by hoffman and be done with it.

Could this be what the count down clock is set up for on their site?

Glad to see this but I hope Steve Wilson will do ELP as well.

And Renny, your right, the DCC Gold version is the best out there! I am lucky to have one.

It'll be interesting to see if the 5.1 mix is on DVD or Blu ray.[i'm betting it'll be Blu ray]

Saw Steve Wilson with Blackfield tonight in NYC. He didn't mention this Jethro Tull news but man is this guy something or what?
Performs with many many other groups than his own (Porcupine Tree) and engineers other groups catalogs (see King Crimson and now Tull).
Plus he has about 5 other groups he works with (Bass Communion/ IEM/ No Man/ Blackfield/ Continuum).

Blackfield Main article:
Blackfield

In 2001 Wilson met and began to collaborate with Israeli rock star Aviv Geffen, with whom he created the band Blackfield. Since then the duo have released three highly acclaimed albums of what they refer to as "melodic and melancholic rock". The albums spawned several hits, notably "Blackfield", "Pain" and "Once". The band has toured several times, and a live DVD of their show in New York was released in 2007. A third album, titled "Welcome to my DNA" was released on the 28th of March 2011 with a European and American tour to follow.

I believe the DCC edition of Aqualung is considered the best in large part because it's the only one that came from the original master tapes, which are in Ian Anderson's possession...or so that's the legend I've heard over the years. I'm looking forward to this release...

The DCC so far is the definitive CD version. I've had Aqualung on lp and cassette which both sounded fine.
The only real bad version is the 25th anniversary version. Ouch!

Seems unlikely Anderson would spill the beans four months early on a "big surprise." I'm still hoping it's a new album. In the interview where he talks about the Wilson remix he also talks about new material being written and arranged.
