Film vs. Film Challenge: Round 3, Match 2

Citizen Kane vs. Psycho

Psycho. The legendary profile of a madman who left a trail of dead bodies in his wake. A terrifying thriller that shocked audiences. Citizen Kane. A groundbreaking, highly influential faux biopic touted as one of the greatest films of all time.

Being more of a Hitchcock guy, this was easy. I enjoyed Psycho more than Welles in Citizen Kane.

Closest one yet for me...but I'm stickin' with Welles.

Kane by a landslide.

Tough as we go on and the movies get more different.

I'll go with Pyscho as the more entertaining. Kane has more clunky scenes

Citizen kane was a bit too pretentious for my liking. Psycho is much weirder and, for me, that makes it more entertaining. Go Hitchcock!

I agree, Franky-Wanky*. This was way harder as a choice than anything so far.

I chose Psycho...but it was daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn close.

I had to go with Psycho. I think Citizen Kane was innovative, and not particularly entertaining. Psycho was both.

I had to go with Psycho. Although, I was leaning towards Kane.

This one is quite difficult for me. Psycho's influence is as sweeping as almost any film you can name. It was as bold and daring as almost anything a mainstream director had done before or since. Aside from the unfortunate look on Bates' face at the very end, it's damn near flawless. Even to this day, the shower scene if pretty shocking.

But Citizen Kane is Citizen Kane. I don't know that I've ever been more impressed with a raw display of directorial bravado as I was here. Welles didn't throw out the rule book -- he didn't even bother to read it! I love the story and performances. Quite excellent.

BOTH are important. BOTH are influential. BOTH are impressive.

I'm a huge Hitchcock fan, so I'd like to see him do well. But honestly, Pyscho is not even in my top five Hitchcocks. (!!!)

I think Citizen Kane is ultimately more impressive and more entertaining. It's something I return to more frequently than I do Psycho. And so it gets my vote.

Kane was not all that influential in the sense that others tried to make movies like it -- almost no one ever has. Psycho OTOH can be seen as a key moment in the development of the slasher flick and of course there are tons of movies like that. Now that's influential! Unfortunately not in a good way...
