Mastodon working on Led Zeppelin-inspired new album

Mastodon are currently in the studio working on a new Led Zeppelin-inspired album, the band have said.

The Atlanta metallers have posted a series of photos from their writing space over at Mastodonrocks.com, while drummer Brann Dailor told Noise Creep that the new effort will be "more riff-oriented" than previous releases and influenced by the late Zep drummer John Bonham.

"Everything always changes once you go in the studio, but at the moment it seems like a really super-heavy Led Zeppelin or something," said Dailor. "It has a lot of that Bonham-esque groove to it, but really heavy and dark. I really like playing like that, and when it goes into those parts, I'm psyched."

The album will be the follow-up to 2009's 'Crack the Skye'.

Mastodon will play the UK's Sonisphere Festival in July.

Heavy metal band Mastodon have revealed the artwork for their new album, The Hunter. According to DailyBlam.com the band, who usually use artist Paul Romano for their album covers, changed things for this record by commissioning their set designer, A.J. Fosik.

As for the music, drummer Brann Dailor says: “It’s sort all over the place – a lot of different sounds. Some straight-up classic-rock-sounding songs, straight-up death metal-sounding songs and some completely bizarre, weirdo rock songs that we're not really sure what they are, but we love them.”

Mastodon: 'Our new album will inspire drunkenness and public nudity'

Mastodon have said that their new album 'The Hunter' will encourage their fans to get drunk and strip naked in public.

Frontman Brent Hinds predicted that the LP will cause mayhem when it's released later this year, commenting: "Kids are going to get into trouble to this album."

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the singer continued: "They're going to break speakers, pop springs on their beds and get drunk and nude in public."

The Atlanta band have been working on the record with producer Mike Elizondo at a studio in California previously used by Nirvana and Tom Petty.

"To be in a room where all that stuff went down is a big deal to us. We're nerds like that," bassist Brann Dailor added.

The album, which is the follow-up to 2009's 'Crack The Skye', does not have a confirmed tracklisting yet, but the band have indicated that songs titled 'Black Tongue', 'Blasteroids', 'All The Heavy Lifting', 'Curl Of The Burl', 'Dry Bone Valley', 'Stargasm' and 'The Octopus Has No Friends'.

Hinds has previously told fans to expect a departure from their sludge metal sound on the record, describing it as "pretty different to anything we've ever done".
