This is a sick thought that belongs in the WANderground, but I wonder how long it will be before...

Spoiler: show
...Mar-Vell looks up Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau's phone numbers? :yay: :ohyes: :yay:

If it's true and not a misleading tease, thumbs down from Taft.

And I'm a fan of the character in question.

I'm not shocked considering some of the rejuvenated characters that have come along in recent years.

My guess is it's true, and they're bringing back Mar-Vell to partly sorta offset the loss of another Captain they'll be killing off shortly. For a while, anyway.

I'm not sure what to think. Generally I'm opposed to the ongoing trivialization of death in the Marvel Universe. But after Brubaker successfully brought back Bucky, and made a damn good story out of it, I'm more willing to wait and see.

It was pretty obvious.

almost too obvious from all the teases,it couldn't have been anyone else.

Which is why I still think a twist might happen.

In the end,it makes some sense. Marvel needs to keep Captain Marvel trademark or lose it to DC, But every Capt. Marvel fails.

Done right,i could see this be real interesting, and make the Captain' greatest moment be something other than his death.

Done wrong and you messed up a classic old story

In my humble opinion, they should have given the title of Captain Marvel to Carol Danvers or Monica Rambeau if they felt that Genis wasn't good enough...

On this I have to agree. Bucky's return was shockingly excellent. Bru's Cap may well be the best Marvel run of the last two or three years.

I'm not betting any money on that!

I read the GN as a kid and I still have it. It's truly a great story, and I hate that they're mucking around with it.

But there's an easy way out if it goes badly- who's to say that the Mar-Vell that returns is really him?

It was one of the times where the death was poignant. Much like Bruce's parents, and Peter's Uncle Ben.

I'd agree, which is why, Bru's exception or not, I'm not in the camp of those supporting this idea. 'Specially since his death was such a landmark, too.

I guess all bets are officially off now. I can't wait to see Uncle Ben team up with Thomas Wayne to take down Lew Moxon

i never liked either one. Carol was a nothing when I started reading-some Binary thing and Rogue had stole her powers. and Capt. Marvel didn't really fit monica who was kinda boring.

That's right i am a He-man womyn hater

It's not the same thing as Uncle Ben or the Wayne's though. Cap's death is not fundamental for another main character. It was simply a great story and his defining moment, sadly.

But as the years and years pass, and that story fades into the background, almost not relevant to the current readers (unlike when I started, when it was considered very relevant), it seems inevitable. It does remove poignancy from that story but there are fewer and fewer people collecting who've read that story as time goes on.

I do remember a Silver surfer issue where they met up-in the land of the dead or something. I think Cap hinted it wasn't time for him to come back-yet. Of course that was like 1991 or something :)

I never read much Mar-Vell stuff. I love the costume design (was that Gil Kane who came up with it?), but cosmic stuff tends to bore me pretty quickly. I distinctly remember not understanding why all the heroes were so upset in the DEATH OF... graphic novel. I had barely even heard of the guy, and here was Spider-Man crying about his death.

I guess I'm just missing a gene, or something.

I wasn't a big fan of Mar-Vell back in the 1970s. Something seemed to be missing in those stories because they never had much impact on me when I was young. I loved Monica Rambeau though as Captain Marvel.

Pass. I've dug the character since the old green and white days, but this is a bad bring-back.
