Kasabian working on 'Pink Floyd sounding' new album
Kasabian have revealed that they're working on a Pink Floyd sounding new album.
The follow-up to this year's 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', frontman Tom Meighan revealed they've already got a selection of "beautiful" new tracks.
"[Guitarist] Sergio [Pizzorno]'s got a body of work already, it's very 'Dark Side Of The Moon', Pink Floyd," Meighan told internet radio station Dabbl.co.uk. "[It's] very essential and very beautiful, piano-based songs that sound beautiful and we're going to really grunge them up a bit." He added.
Although, the Leicester band are busy working on their new album, Meighan admitted that it would be some time before they look at heading into the studio, because of the group's touring commitments.
"We're nearly there," he explained. "But we've just got to go and take 'West Ryder [Pauper Lunatic Asylum]' round the world and show it to people," he added.
Meanwhile, Kasabian have just been announced as headliners at next year's T In The Park.

Kasabian's next album to be inspired by Nirvana
Kasabian have said their next album will draw on Nirvana and Pink Floyd as influences.
The Leicester band who released third LP 'West Rider Paper Lunatic Asylum' earlier this year, are aiming for the follow-up to be out by autumn next year.
"Sergio Pizzorno [songwriter, guitarist] has got a body of songs that are sounding great," frontman Tom Meighan told BBC 6Music. "There’s one that sounds like Nirvana, which is really grungy, a big riff."
He added that the album would be a step on from their last record.
"It’s nothing like what we’ve done on this record, it’s really old school grunge. There’s a lot of Pink Floyd, 'Dark Side Of The Moon', piano-based songs at the minute," the singer explained, adding that they expect to turn it around fairly quickly.
"I think we’ll do it a bit quicker this time," he explained. "We took a good three months off last time, because we toured for about four years and that’s the only reason we took that amount of time off, because we toured like crazy. I think this time we’ll have a few weeks off or a month off, then we’ll go into the studio and record the new record. Hopefully we won’t wait around so much this time."
Meighan added that he would like to play next year's Glastonbury festival, but thought his band would have to make way for some music legends.
"If Michael Eavis calls, you come. If you don’t, you don’t but I can see him getting really massive established bands like The Stones," he suggested. "If it’s the 40th Anniversary I don’t think he’d pick us anyway to headline it. He’s going to pick established bands that have been around over 30 or 40 years."

Kasabian ditching 'West Ryder…' style for next album
Kasabian's Tom Meighan has warned fans that the band's next album will be "nothing like" their last effort 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.
The Leicester five-piece, who have just been announced as headliners of next June's Isle Of Wight Festival, are expected to release their fourth album some time next year.
"If people are expecting 'West Ryder…' or 'Underdog' they've got another thing coming because it's nothing like the last record," Meighan told Absolute Radio. "We're not the same band anymore. We always keep changing."
He added that the catalyst for the band's new direction was guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno. "It all stems from Serge," he said. "He plants the seeds and this sort of giant beanstalk starts forming then we take it in the studio."

Kasabian planning to release new material before 2011 festivals
Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno has said he is keen to release new material before the band play live shows next summer.
The Leicester band are already confirmed to headline RockNess and the Isle Of Wight Festival next June, with the guitarist telling NME fans should be expecting some new additions to the setlists.
When asked if Kasabian would be playing new songs at the festivals, Pizzorno replied: "Definitely. There may even be something out by then too. I'd like there to be. I’d love to [have something out], because it always gets you going when you’re playing the new shit."
Pizzorno was speaking around the release of London Boulevard, the British film he has composed the soundtrack for. He said that some of the material from the soundtrack may influence new Kasabian songs.
"There may be a tune or so from the film that could surface too," he said. "In some ways, the film and the score might be almost a little glimpse into what will happen with the band in the future."

Kasabian taking inspiration from Radiohead on new album
Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno has said that he wants the band's next album to emulate Radiohead's 'OK Computer'.
Pizzorno, speaking in the new issue of NME, on UK newsstands now or available digitally, explained that the writing process for the follow-up to 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' is already well underway.
"Not necessarily the sound," Pizzorno explained, "but 'OK Computer', as a record that just makes you go, 'Wow' [is the inspiration]. I want to aim for something that's as incredible as that, just the feeling of being blown away that you get from that."
The guitarist said he can't wait to play tracks from the album live, adding: "I just want people to fucking come away from it going, 'Yep, great album. It's different, I love this. Let's go see it live. Thank you.' Then off we go again."
The Leicester band are set to headline the Isle Of Wight Festival and Scotland's RockNess in June. Pizzorno said he'd like the band to have some new material out before the shows.

Kasabian to roadtest new album on intimate spring UK tour
Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has told NME that the band will roadtest new material on an 'intimate' spring UK tour.
Meighan said the band would be playing mid-sized venues - intimate by their stadium standards these days.
"We're going to go back on the road in April or May, and we're going to be doing the small shows again – 1,000, 2,000 people a night," he revealed in the latest issue of NME.
With the band heading into the studio next month to start recording the follow-up to latest album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', Meighan hinted that by the time the gigs come round they'll be aiming to include new material in their set.
"I think we'll play two or three new songs," he said. "Serge [Pizzorno, guitarist] has written a song we can end on now apart from 'LSF' too. Maybe that's just me putting my balls on the table, but I hope we can do that."
Meanwhile, Meighan said he was "gobsmacked" to learn that Kasabian have been nominated in the Best British Band and Best Live Band categories in the Shockwaves NME Awards 2011, adding that being up for the prizes is "a fucking honour".

Kasabian to release 'epic' new album in October
Kasabian will release their new album in October, a record label spokesperson for the band has said.
Although the album is still being finished and is currently untitled, the spokesperson said that plans to release it have now been put in place.
"They're mixing it," the Sony/BMG rep told Thisisleicestershire.co.uk, as well as revealing the October release plan. It is believed that the rockers have been working with producer Dan The Automator on the record, and have been recording in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Guitarist Serge Pizzorno described the sound of the record by saying he thinks the band have bettered their last album, 'West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.
"Well, it's epic," he claimed. "It's big songs that make you feel like anything's possible. It's a really positive record. I suppose it's a combination of all three records but we've just taken it a bit further."
He added: "I'm really excited about it, because after the last record, people really liked it and wanted to know what was next, and I'm happy to say that it's got better. I'm excited about playing it live – there are tunes on there that are going to take people to a new place."

Kasabian reveal new album song titles
Kasabian have revealed a series of new song titles set to feature on their forthcoming new album.
The Leicester band have been working on the record in San Fransisco with Dan The Automator, who produced their last album 'West Ryder Lunatic Pauper Asylum. Songs set to feature include 'Switchblade Smile', 'Neon Noon', Goodby Kiss', I Hear Voices', 'Shelter From The Storm' and 'Velociraptor'.
Singer Tom Meighan told Q that the latter song is "mega punk fucking aggression. Totally off the wall, but you know it's us."

Guitarist Serge Pizzorno said of the album: "Listening to the songs makes you feel great. Get your fucking jacket on, whack your fucking shoes on. It makes you believe things are going to happen."
The five-piece started work on the album at London's British Grove Studios earlier this year before the singer and guitarist headed to California to finish it. It's expected to be released in October.
Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno has said he's sure "a spirit" has written the band's fourth album, because he feels like he "wasn't even there."
The band are currently putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2009's 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', which will be released before the end of 2011.
Speaking to NME in a video which you can see at the top of your screen, the guitarist said how the album was written: "I feel like I wasn't even there, like a spirit came down and took over, I'd just be milling about and I'd wake up in the morning and go 'Who's done that?' I really feel like a spirit wrote the album."
Bassist Chris Edwards also revealed that the band have used songs that didn't make the cut for 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'. He said: "Some of the ones that didn't make it onto 'West Ryder' have become big songs on the new album."
The band are set to preview new material during their headline set at the Isle Of Wight Festival next weekend (June 12).

Kasabian: 'We never want to do an album like 'West Ryder' again'
Kasabian have said they never want to repeat the experimental way in which they made their 2009 third album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', though they feel that album was something that they needed to do.
Speaking to the Daily Record, guitarist Serge Pizzorno added that he felt that the Leicester band's as yet untitled fourth album is by far the best thing they've ever done.
Pizzorno said: "The last one [album] was the concept of the whole world of 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' and the tunes were experimental and out there. I've done that now. Every band needs one of those, a 'Sgt. Pepper' or 'A Satanic Majesty's Request'. I've done that now. On the new album, every track is a proper tune."
The guitarist added that the band's new album took around four months to complete and that he believed it was the best thing they've ever recorded.
He said: "I wrote the album from start to finish in three or four months. It was a really short space of time and it's an incredible album, the best we have ever done by miles."

Kasabian debut new songs at intimate Sheffield show
Kasabian played their first gig of 2011 tonight (June 4) at O2 Academy Sheffield.
The show was the part of a short warm up tour for their headline slots at RockNess and the Isle Of Wight Festival next weekend (10 and 12)
Kicking off with 'Club Foot', the band treated the 2,000 fans present to a hit-packed set that peaked with the now long-traditional singalong to 'LSF', and climaxed with 'Fire'.
The hour-and-a-half set also saw the band debut two new songs from their as-yet-untitled fourth album - 'Velociraptor' and 'Switchblade Smile', the latter of which will be played for the first time on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show on Tuesday (7).
The band were on energetic form, with frontman Tom Meighan saying he was "glad to be back, as I'm the only one who hasn't has been busy having a baby!"
Following sessions in London's British Grove Studios and further work in San Francisco with 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' producer Dan The Automator, the new Kasabian album is finished and is set to be released in October.
Guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno (pictured right) recently described the record as "the best we have ever done by miles".
Before an encore of new song 'Switchblade Smile', 'Stuntman' (seguing with their 'I Feel Love' cover) and 'Fire', Pizzorno dedicated main set closer 'LSF' to "all the people who camped out overnight to get tickets."
Kasabian played:
'Club Foot' 'Where Did All The Love Go?' 'Underdog' 'Shoot The Runner' 'Velociraptor' 'Cutt Off' 'Thick As Thieves' 'Take Aim' 'Empire' 'The Doberman' 'Fast Fuse' 'Vlad The Impaler' 'LSF' 'Switchblade Smile' 'Stuntman'/'I Feel Love' 'Fire'
The band now play O2 Academy Leeds tomorrow (5), then Wolverhampton Civic Hall (7) and O2 Apollo Manchester (8).
Kasabian have said that their as yet untitled fourth studio album is a much "heavier" album than their previous efforts and is the kind of LP that "squares up to you and doesn't leave you alone."
The band are currently putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2009's 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', which will be released before the end of 2011.
Speaking to NME in a video which you can see at the top of your screen, guitarist Serge Pizzorno said of the new album: "It's heavier than I thought it would be. It squares up to you and doesn't leave you alone. It's really in your face."
He added that he believed the album was a "jukebox album", with no weak songs. He said: "It's a real jukebox album, just tune after tune, with really strong verses and really strong choruses."
The band previewed two songs from their new album, 'Velociraptor' and 'Switchblade Smile' during a gig at O2 Academy Sheffield on Saturday night (June 4).

That NME article has a subhead that kind of mocks the "hip-hop" bits that are being added to the new album, but really, that's the stuff that made their first album so breathtaking - that it was the loudest, hardest dance album you'd ever heard.
These descriptions make me optimistic for the new record. Get back to where you once belonged, Sergio.

See, now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. That sounds like it could have been on the first album. That's the kind of stuff I want to hear from these guys.
I also approve of the use of the exclamation point at the end of the title.
