For all you Dusty completists out there (you know who you are), RPM UK will be releasing this comp of her first group The Lana Sisters.

http://www.rpmrecords.co.uk/

Released 23/05/11. The Lana Sisters made all girl commercial harmony pop singles for Fontana during the late 1950’s. Formed by Ris Chantelle, they were joined in 1958 by Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O Brien. Later the artist known as Dusty Springfield.

They came closest to a hit with their version of Seven Little Girls, appeared on TV s Drumbeat , and produced 7 singles in all. The NME in 1960 reviewed their Someone Loves You Joe as a lively rocker that moves along at a fair old pace with guitars twanging all around. There s lots of echo and the girls put over the number with plenty of punch .

This is a first time reissue for all of the singles and an early part of the Dusty Springfield story. The release falls into place in front of RPM s previous successful reissue of The Springfields (Retro D 820).

As a bonus we have five singles by The Chantelles, the follow up Brit girl trio Ris Chantelle lead after Miss O Briens departure. Their media launch was in the film Dateline Diamonds alongside Kiki Dee. As with the film they had a strong connection with Radio London and London My Home Town was a regularly played and fondly remembered theme song which came out of a Radio London jingle. Other highlight s include the Northern Soul stomper There s Something About You, the Spectoresque I Want That Boy and Brit Girl classic Gonna Give Him Some Love.

Ring A My Phone / Chimes Of Arcady / Buzzin / Cry,Cry Baby / Mister Dee Jay /Tell Him No / (Seven Little Girls) Sitting In The Back Seat / Sitting On The Sidewalk / My Mother S Eyes / You’ve Got What It Takes / Someone Loves You Joe / Tintarella Di Luna (Magic Colour Of The Moonlight) / Two Some / Down South / Bonus Tracks - The Chantelles / London My Home Town / I Want That Boy / Sticks And Stones / The Secret Of My Success / Gonna Get Burned / Gonna Give Him Some Love / I Think Of You / Please Don't Kiss Me / There's Something About You / Just Another Fool / Another Time Another World - Nola York / Cos I Love You - Nola York

This must be the final frontier of Dusty Springfield vault material. It would seem that everything else(unreleased songs,alternate/new mixes, alternate takes, concert recordings, BBC material, video materials) has been unearthed.

Apart from her version of "To Love Somebody", which I'm guessing was destroyed in the Atlantic vault fire...?

The lost Atlantic version was backing track only. A BBC version with vocals is available.

Some of Dusty's foreign-language sides still need to be properly reissued by Philips/Phonogram/Mercury/Universal/whatever the f*** their name is this week - they've only been out on a fan club CD that is long gone (and I missed out on it).

The toughest thing missing from her collection is her TV show performance of Mockingbird with Jimi Hendrix.

At least we have the awful sounding version of it on YouTube.

The audio exists via home recordings, but as for the video, all that exists is an excerpt filmed by a viewer, who pointed an 8mm silent movie camera at his T.V. screen.
