March 28, 2011 (LOS ANGELES, CA) – 30 years after the release of Beauty and the Beat, their double-platinum debut album that cemented in our hearts and our pop-vernacular such smash hits as “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat”, the Go-Go’s and their fans prepare for a slew of 30th Anniversary activities for the 2011 summer and beyond.

Kicking off the festivities will be Ladies Gone Wild, a national U.S. tour with the legendary Go-Go’s Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, Jane Wiedlin and Kathy Valentine. The tour will include a very special Los Angeles homecoming show at the Greek Theater on August 17, Belinda’s birthday. This summer will also see the release of a Deluxe Edition of Beauty and the Beat, available May 17 from EMI, including a limited edition on hot pink vinyl. The Deluxe Edition includes a special bonus audio CD that features previously unreleased music from a 1981 live show. In August, the Go-Go’s will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Are there any b-sides from that album other than "Surfing and Spying"?

"Surfing and Spying" was the only non-album b-side. Was more material recorded and never used? Nothing else has surfaced before now, if it was.

As for the 1981 concert, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the Palos Verdes High School concert that was used for the "Totally Go-Go's" VHS and RCA SelectaVision VideoDisc from the '80s, though there are better, less slick shows from earlier in '81 that were recorded.

Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it's been THIRTY-FOUR YEARS since we used to spend our Saturday nights at the Masque. I've always enjoyed the Go-Go's in both incarnations (the pre-I.R.S. punks who couldn't play and the poppy MTV darlings). Still, 1981 seems like just yesterday, and it's hard to fathom that we're already celebrating that decade. We should riot on Hollywood Blvd. on the deluxe edition's street date just to piss off the Los Angeles Police Department and for old time's sake.

Count me in for this package.

I'll bet the live show WON'T be SNL, which in a famous quote their manager said something like, this one show just about destroyed their career!

I am so glad to see this release FINALLY getting the Deluxe treatment. I have seen them about five times over their career and have always enjoyed their shows. Not having a remastered version of this release was always a blemish in my collection and now that shall be resolved. Looking forward to this release big time!

They were beyond AWFUL in a live nationally televised performance. I had the misfortune of watching the original b-cast.

The set list for the live bonus tracks match track-for-track with their Westwood One In Concert show (Air Date 12/19 - 12/21 of 1981, show number 81-12).

Which is great for me if it is....I paid far too much for it on Ebay and the last side has a unfixable surface pock-mark.

The Go-Go's. Boston. Yeah, those two go together. (sigh)

No well-recorded hometown shows? Well, at least they're staying in the proper time frame.

The Boston show was recorded for FM broadcast. It's a good show, and I'm just glad IRS didn't trot out the Palos Verdes show again.

For some reason, the DNS server at my office can't find imwan.com (page not found), so I've been using the IP address. Unless there is a better workaround...

I'm all over this one, though I would have loved to have seen some bonus material on the first CD, even if it was only "Surfing And Spying". I didn't see them at the Metro, but I did see them with A Flock Of Seagulls a year or two later at Boston Garden.

I'm very happy to have this and would have snapped it up even if had been only the remastered album. The b-side would have been nice, along with the 4 or 5 sides recorded for Stiff, and whatever else might be in the vaults, but at this point I feel lucky to have gotten anything at all.

There is a show from Feb '81, recorded at The Roxy, that is a fan favorite, and I had hoped we'd get that one, as the band was still sounding a bit rough and playing some of the earlier material that fell to the wayside after BATB was released.

I'm happy to have this for the remastering, as I love the album, but to my ears the live show is of bootleg quality and I'll never play it. I've only played the Beatles' Hamburg recordings once or twice so there's no chance I'll listen to this Go-Go's show.

Agreed. The remastering on the main disc is terrific. The concert disc... meh, except for the early rough version of "Vacation."
