1956 American version of the 1954 movie Gojira.

Image

As the movie opens, we find Tokyo demolished.

Image

American reporter Steve Martin awakes, wounded and traumatized, amongst the rubble.

Image

Martin is rescued and taken to one of many mobile emergency hospitals that have been set up to treat the wounded and dying. Doctors are checking people are for radiation levels. A friend of his, Emiko (daughter of Dr. Yamane, a brilliant paleontologist) is helping the injured.

Image

Steve experiences survivors guilt, and recalls how this all started...

What do you think, worthwhile project to do the whole movie? It is fun, but too much work if nobody is interested.

It took me a while to figure it out, but VLC's got a screencap feature. :D

The original version,Gojira,is superior to the American re-edit,but give the re-editors credit for(in general)keeping to the spirit of the Japanese original.
A couple of points about the first Godzilla movie, either version---first,it's atypical to any other film in the series. No battles with other rubbery critters;instead, the big G is an allegory of the A-bomb:the metaphor that attacked Tokyo. Two,Godzilla looks better in black and white.

I watched the original on Netflix not too long ago. This American edit feels wholly unnecessary, I think it's just the producers underestimating the American audience and feeling the need to shoe horn in an American actor. Oh well, at least they didn't just come out with a shitty American remake, they at least let that one stew for a few decades, presumably to assure maximum crapitude.
