I just acquired Fantastic Giants #24, and of course one of the stories it reprints is the first Konga tale. It is signed by Steve Ditko, and comics.org credits him as the inker. The inks on the Konga figures do look like his work. But the inks on a lot of other stuff, especially the human figures, sure don't look like Ditko. They have a fine-lined feathery look that I've never seen him use before or since. Did someone else help him with the inks?

Ditko is credited with inking issue one. Can you post a scan of some of the interior pages, Jason? I might be able to help if I could see the line work. Ditko might have been experimenting with his inking style. KONGA debuted in 1960, and Ditko's approach to drawing was beginning to change a little. It's entirely possible also that someone may have assisted with some of the inks.

Yeah, I'd like to see that, too. I only have a few Konga issues, and later ones
at that. I might have it in that giant repeat issue of Ditko monster stuff that Charlton
put out, but I haven't easy access to it at the moment.

That Fantastic Giants page you posted there is quite good.

According to Blake Bell's Ditko biography, Ditko shared a studio with "famed fetish artist" Eric Stanton from 1958-1968. Stanton says Ditko helped him out on jobs, so I wouldn't be surprised if Stanton help Ditko out occasionally.

Stanton did mostly bondage stuff. "He thought my stuff was funny," says Stanton.

I read somewhere that Ditko has denied that he did any of the bondage stuff.
And I also read that Stanton claims that he came up with the web shooters for Spider-Man.

I doubt the later, but some of Stanton's pages look Ditkoy to me.

Take this one for example:

While Ditko may not have inked or drawn the women, that lower right panel
looks certainly all DItko to me.

Thanks for scanning that page, Rip. Do you have the ability to post a later page from the story, where the figures are more prominent? It's the human figures that look non-Ditkoishi in the inks to me. Konga looks like he was inked by Ditko.

None of those women look at all Ditko to me.

There was another piece that I can't find now that looked more like Ditko.
Here's a nice article and theory about Ditko "helping" Stanton:

Mental telepathy explains the similarity between Ditko and Stanton's inks. ;)

Influence via osmosis. It could happen. :)

Was it this, John? The last three panels appear to be mostly Ditko:

Probably, Linda. Seems like a lot of Ditko on that page.
