I will definitely get the DVD of this, and the DVD of the documentary. Too bad they're not being released in a COMBINED package...

Rant time.
The "Last Play" was initially announced as a single concert - July 16, 2008. I'm sure many people bought tickets not so much because of Billy Joel but because it would be the last concert at Shea - and the show sold out. Then a second date was announced - July 18, two days after the originally announced "last play." So everyone who had already bought tickets for July 16 under the impression they were going to be attending the very last concert ever performed at Shea Stadium were suddenly s*** out of luck... pretty ironic considering Billy Joel ends his concerts telling his fans "don't take no s*** from nobody."
Here's a publicity photo showing Billy Joel at Shea with the scoreboard in the background, at the time the concerts were announced back in February of '08... it may be tough to see in this image, but the scoreboard clearly shows just one date, July 16...
...and newspaper articles publicizing the "Last Play" reported that there would be one show.
I did not attempt to get tickets for either show, so I'm not saying this with a "sour grapes" point of view. I just think it's dirty pool to advertise a concert as the last performance ever at a particular venue, and when that show sells out, to add a second show after the so-called "last play."
Fake Last Play Fail.
Fake Billy Joel Fail.
Billy Joel FEH.

I have also read brutal reviews about this from Joel diehards. Many felt he was phoning it in vocally and that he wasn't interested in any of the duets (me either Billy!). I have no interest in this, but I did think 12 Gardens Live was great (the mix was so-so), but that was really to me, the last go-around for Billy's greatness.

I don't get why there are cries for Blu. DVD is the standard common medium for video. And on a upscaling player, it should look fine.
I am debating on getting this. I like the 2 live albums I have - the old Russian one and the '99 New Years.
I do wish that after nearly 20 years he would put out something. It seems odd that someone like him would be so lost at his age. Even Elton John was expressing something of this nature in RS I think.
I agree though in not taking the Rod Stewart route.

I think Elton was talking more along the lines off not trying to compete with today's pop stars. I don't think he's ready to stop recording and writing new songs just yet.

Personally Chris, he hasn't had a new album since 1993, and I don't think we'll be seeing anything new anytime soon. He had one new song for his then wife Katie.
