Film vs. Film Challenge: Round 2, Match 6
Rear Window vs. The Shawshank Redemption
Hitchcock’s beloved suspense film is a true classic of the genre featuring screen icons like Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, enduringly popular, filled with drama and suspense, and impeccably directed. The Shawshank Redemption was a flop discovered later on home video, but the story about confinement, yearning to break free and struggles against the system has won fans and acclaim since.

Easiest challenge for me is always "x vs. Rear Window", since I loathe the film.

Wow, nice pairing.
My favorite Hitchcock vs my favorite prison movie not starring Linda Blair.
I'm going to go with Shawshank. It's a beautifully moving picture. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are perfect in their roles. Stephen King should wish all his movies were adapted this creatively.

I voted against Shawshank in round 1, I'm gonna have to vote for it in round 2. I love how they adapted the Stephen King short story "Rita Hayworth & the Shawshank Redemption"(if the title's wrong, I haven't read it in a while).

Oddly Robbie, I voted for Shawshank in the first round but now I have to vote against. Shawshank is a great feelgood film but the bit in Rear Window where she is in the apartment and the guy comes back................
Woahhhhhhhhhh!

Jeff is making me ill.
I loved Shawshank, and even - much to my surprise - pulled the trigger for it in the first round. It's uplifting after dragging you through the pits, beautifully shot, and features great characters.
But Rear Window! Come on! Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy Stewart, GRACE KELLY. What Jo said. "He's coming back to the apartment! Get out!" There is so much to like here. Easily a top 5 Hitchcock for me, and one of my top films, period. I love revisiting this one. It gets my vote EASILY.

It's odd, I love all the critical parties involved with Rear Window. Grace Kelly...possibly the most beautiful woman ever. Jimmy Stewart, the perfect everyman actor, wonderful in everything he does. Hitchcock, the master of suspense. Recipe for greatness, you'd think. But the movie just fails me, moving far, far too slowly to enjoy. I can dig suspense and buildup, but it just went on too long. Put Hitchcock up against almost anything, and he's a winner. But not this one.

Rear Window's great, but Shawkshank Redemption tops it in terms of villains, and great moments.

REAR WINDOW was innovative and funny and groundbreaking.
SHAWSHANK was moving, but it was anything but new.
Hitch by a mile.

Rear Window. The suspense still kills me.

Only by a smidge. Things could still go the other way.
Eric, when does the official count get taken and finalized?

Officially, Sunday at midnight. In practice, it'll be some time in the morning on Monday, EST.
