Was it better before? Do you like the new colors or do you think they should have remastered them and left them flattened?

More examples here:

I like the new coloring, honestly. I'd say go with the new coloring, with two qualifiers:

* Books intended to be archival collections of the original (Archives, Masterworks) are exceptions. They should be as close to the original coloring as possible.
* The new colorist can't suck. There's some downright horrible modern coloring out there. Get guys like Ian.

I like both. But the new coloring looks good.

I agree with Trevor's points. To me, coloring is like special effects in a movie. I want to watch the movie and think, "Wow, what a great movie!" as opposed to "Wow, look at those great special effects!" Almost all the stuff at that link looked really well done. Maybe a tad too much reflective metal, but not enough to take me out of the game.

New color. Definitely.
Mostly because I know that if the technology had been available back then, the artists would have been all over it. Old comics look like they do because they only had 4 color printing. But if they had the capabilities then that are available now? Kirby (et al) would have taken Photoshop to it's limits and then some.

As long as the companies get someone who actually knows how to color, and not cover up shit work with special effects, then more power to them. The flat, sometime garish colors of yesteryear, look more dopey instead of quaint to me.

New color, if not overdone ala Neal Adams.

It has to be done right, like you say. Neal Adams can't color. The guys / gals they got recoloring these Thor stories have what it takes.

In that particular example either way looks fine. But I see no compelling reason to change it just for the sake of changing it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yah, that's a lot more the way I think Jack envisioned it. Way to go, people!
